These babies might make Crocs look like Louboutins, but everyone knows you can’t go Flats Fishing or Canyoneering in Crocs. Geez.

  1. I find it is a fascinating testament to the influence of fashion over our perception of beauty that we regard shoes that look like clubs or pointy little daggers as normal – even beautiful – while shoes that look like our own feet are considered bizarre. Have we really come so far from the practice of foot binding? I’d say not.

I wear my FiveFingers to do just about anything that doesn’t require dressy attire, and have even come close to wearing them with a suit. Couldn’t quite get over myself to do that, but I wear them with jeans, shorts, etc. to play with my kids, go to the store, the movies, casual dinners, the gym, etc. Having gotten quite used to seeing them on my own feet, on the rare occasion I see them on someone else they don’t look strange to me at all.

I highly recommend you go check out Justin’s site at http://www.birthdayshoes.com. After you look through the photos on a few of his posts I suggest you too may start to find these little babies a tad less weird looking.

Our neighbor has some, and they are even more ridiculous in person, if you can believe it.

To answer your question, Vibram is an Italian company and the word for fingers is the same for toes, which is how they got to calling them fivefingers.
