Bargain Of The Week: Alice + Olivia For Payless

Friday, June 4th, 2010

Alice + Olivia For Payless 'Hampton' Studded Clogs $39.99

I’m sensing a theme in my Bargains Of The Week…linen…studs…cheap…whatev. Love these, and what you can’t see? The sole is pink! It’s like the Payless version of Louboutins. Okay that’s a reach, but you have to admit that they’re pretty stupid cute…

Bargain Of The Week

Modcloth 'Painter's' Wedge $39.99

Although grey and cool in L.A, the reality is that summer is just around the corner, ready or not. If you’re like me, you’ve done zero shopping and are holding tight to boots, jeans and sweaters. (Could it be the impending truth that my house is 42 skillion degrees during the late summer months…?) Long story short, grab these killer Modcloth wedges for just forty bucks, to both stay and look cool; they remind me of Chloé without the price tag…

Recently Purchased Bargain Of The Week

Newport News Black Satin Ankle Bootie $25

Yes, really. I went back to these on the Newport News site countless times, only to bail pre-Add-To-Cart thinking, “It’s freaking Newport News…” And then I’d go back. And then I got over myself. I figured that for twenty-five bucks (plus one of the eight skillion discounts codes they send you, which brought them down to like twenty-three, including shipping) if they completely suck I’ll just send them back, not to mention N.N. has been cropping up more and more in the ‘Editor’s Picks’ section of my mags.

So what gives? They’re actually pretty damn cute for what they are. Yes, they have the dreaded (in my world) black PVC bottoms, but it’s not like the upper part is vinyl – it’s satin and velvet. I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised when I removed them from the box, and even more so upon trying them on. Keepers from Newport News? Who knew…?

(Sidebar: There is an outside chance that between these and the numerous Target collabs, I’m potentially developing a creepy cheap shoe fetish. Perish the thought.)

Bargain Of The Week: Spool No. 72 ‘Flea Market’ Dress

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Spool No. 72 'Flea Market' Dress $64

Amazing. This is the perfect summer dress for a myriad of reasons; sure it’s eyelet (let’s all beat a dead horse, shall we?) and reminds me of a pinafore dress that I had in the 70′s, but in a good ‘Virgin Suicides’ kind of way. The off-the-shoulder thing is huge too, making room for ethnic inspired beaded earrings and necklaces like this, and although your instinct may be to grab those metallic flat sandals of seasons past? I’d make this frilly frock a bit less precious with motorcycle or cowboy boots (yes, really). Too much? Try a brown or neutral colored chunky leather sandal…like these or their cheaper counterpart, these…

Bargain Of The Week: Cynthia Vincent For Target

Monday, April 5th, 2010

Cynthia Vincent for Target Cotton Wedge Sandal $29.99 (Photo courtesy of Target via Nitrolicious.com)

It doesn’t get better than Cynthia Vincent for thirty bucks, and I can’t wait for these vibrant tribal wedges to hit the shelves so I can check them out ‘in real life.’ The goods arrive both in stores and online beginning April 18th, and are available (if they don’t sell out) through June 20th. Although this shoe is part of a larger collection, this is the only one that I’m really digging. The rest of them look kind of vinyl-y to me, but who knows – you might love them!

Bargain Of The Week: Rodarte For Target Kimono Raincoat

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Rodarte for Target Kimono Floral Print Hooded Raincoat $39.99

Rodarte for Target Kimono Floral Print Hooded Raincoat $39.99

Unless I float away first, I’ll be picking one of these up this afternoon. Yes, I do not own a raincoat. This actually caught my eye on my first in-store run through, to which I wisely thought, “What do I need a raincoat for?” and passed it by. Again, although noted as a ‘Junior’ item, it is generously cut and of course much cuter in person. Targ certainly is giving me a run for my money in the photo department though…

Bargain Of The Week: Rodarte for Target Crepe Lace Print Dress

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Rodarte for Target Crepe Lace Print Dress in 'Oxford Tan/Black' $34.99

Rodarte for Target Crepe Lace Print Dress in 'Oxford Tan/Black' $34.99

Not-so-real-life-friendly styling aside (which I actually think is kinda cool), this little sheath is comfy, forgiving and versatile. I should know since I fell in love on a quick ‘stocking-stuffer’ trip to Target with Z, who I subsequently dragged into the dressing room to his happy squeals of, “Mommy, try it on!” (*blink*) Not only is he the most patient shopper on the planet, he gives great feedback for a five year old dude – no, really.

Long story long, this dress was one of my faves in the Rodarte for Target collection. I wore it to a party on Christmas Eve, with a vintage black Dolce & Gabbana cardigan, black opaque tights, and tan satin Te Casan booties with black leather piping. The best news is that it’s going to be just as cute this summer, sans tights, with flat sandals. And if you’re headed to check out the collection (I know I’m late to the game most of you have already been cut me some slack I have kids whatev) skip the tulle and head straight to the surprisingly decent fitting lace cardigans – if there are any left. For what it’s worth, Z approved of those as well.

(P.S. Although the word ‘Juniors’ is noted in the dress description, this particular dress is generously cut, and I was able to purchase the size I usually wear.)

Bargain(s) Of The Week!

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Cynthia Rowley Black Satin Shift Dress $99.99

Cynthia Rowley Black Satin Shift Dress $99.99

Nine West 'Phantom' Black Suede Bootie $69.99

Nine West 'Phantom' Black Suede Bootie $69.99

These are too good to pass up! The shift (originally marked at $275) is a gorgeous, versatile, classic that can be dressed either up or down, depending. It will save you countless times from the ‘I have a formal event WTF do I wear?’ dilemma. You will have it forever, I promise. The booties (down from $99)? Same deal versatility wise, however they probably won’t save you, and will last only several seasons in lieu of forever. That’s not really the same deal at all now that I think about it, but for seventy bucks…?
