H&M 'The Garden Collection' Eyelet Tunic $14.95

I would wear this a skillion and one times this summer…as a dress…with linen pants…or jeans…as a bathing suit cover-up. You get it.

Outfit Pick: H&M Under $200!

Friday, March 5th, 2010

One of the things that has always been a huge drag about H&M, is that you can’t shop online (unless you speak German). You can however, check out their stuff, and with the addition of their Fashion Studio, you can now waste hours of your precious time mixing and matching various outfits on an underwear-clad model (think paper dolls for big girls). You can even choose a ‘head’ for your model in order to emulate ‘your’ coloring, to perhaps get a better idea of what the outfits might in fact look like on you. I’ve taken the liberty of putting together this little ensemble, which is a most reasonable two hundred bucks for everything. It’s also a good transitional outfit from winter to spring. That is all. (Price of jeans estimated at $39.95)

SizeWize: The Online Shopping Genius!

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

You don’t know it yet, but you worship Amanda Fries. She has single handedly made it significantly easier for you to shop online. The biggest hesitancy that many of us face when doing so is, “What freaking size am I supposed to buy?!” And let’s face it, nothing is more of a pain in the ass than the old return by snail mail; finding a box (because if you’re like me, you’ve already hastily thrown the original one away), paying for shipping, schlepping to the post office, blah, blah, blah. It’s enough to make me want to hoof it to The Grove on a Saturday, and if you live in L.A, you know that that’s about as appealing as eating light bulb. Never fear ladies because SizeWize.com is in the hizzay…WOOT WOOT!

The concept behind SizeWize is simple.  The website tells online shoppers their correct size for nearly every women’s clothing brand and retailer, from Abercrombie and Fitch to Zumiez. One of their most unique features is the ability to enter one’s clothing size in one brand, and then search for the correct size in any other brand (HI!). “If someone wears a size 6 petite pants in Ann Taylor, and they want to know what their size is in Banana Republic, now they can find out,” explains Amanda Fries, the goddess behind SizeWize. Customers can also enter their measurements to find out their correct size in almost any brand, as well.

Better still SizeWize is free! Fries goes on to say that “I created this site because so many of my friends were complaining about the exact same problem that I had. Shopping for clothes online is supposed to save you time and money, because you don’t have to spend the gas money and take the time to drive to the mall, find a parking space, and then wait in line for the waiting room, and then wait in line again to pay for your clothing. But in reality, we waste more time and money returning or exchanging items because we have to guess at what size to buy. Any woman who’s ever shopped for clothing knows that you can be a size six in one brand and a twelve in another brand!” And so, SizeWize was born. Because Fries knows that women like to shop for their children online as well, she currently has a children’s version in development. Could we love her any more…?

'Stack It' Recycled Oxidized Sterling Silver and Pearl Rings $98

Jillybean Green makes my heart beat fast. It’s like all the kid stuff I scour the web for, loaded into one happy little spot. And it’s fun to say (you know you just said it). Created by an L.A. mom who adores both her kids and the environment, Jillybean offers alternatives to adopting a greener lifestyle, without having to compromise the ‘hip’ factor. Every manufacturer they work with creates products that are either organic, made with sustainable or recyclable  materials, employ fair trade practices, or are recyclable, reusable and or/non-toxic. They also support local artisans, designers and good old USA manufacturing – woo hoo!

What I love best about Jillybean Green (besides saying it, okay I’ll stop) is the stuff; babies, kids, gear, bath time…moms, JBG has it all! In addition to my picks above, one of my most fave parts of their site are the 100+ items in the Under $25 Finds section, perfect for gift giving and otherwise. (P.S. How cute is that ‘Heart On Your Back’ tee?!) If you happen to be in Los Angeles, Jillybean now has a store located inside the birthday party locale of choice (*drum roll*) The COOP, located at 11118 Ventura Blvd, in Studio City. But  you don’t have to hop a plane to reap the benefits of Jillybean, since they have been generous enough to team up with LASM to offer one lucky ready a $50 gift certificate! As always, entering is easy when you follow these simple steps:

  1. If you haven’t already, become and LASM Facebook Fan or Twitter Follower.
  2. Visit Jillybean Green and choose the item(s) you’d purchase with your gift certificate.
  3. Leave a comment on this post, letting us know the answers to questions 1 and 2. That’s it!
  4. Get additional entries by Tweeting this giveaway (using my new Tweet Meme button), or posting on your site with a link back to this post.

*All comments must be posted by the end of the giveaway on Wednesday, February 3rd, at 11:59 EST. The winner will be chosen by random.org, notified via e mail, and announced on L.A. Stylist Mom shortly thereafter. One entry per person, with a maximum of two additional entries for Tweeting and/or links back to this post. If winner fails to respond within three days of notification, a new winner will be selected. Open to U.S. and Canada residents ages 18 years or older.

(The $50 Gift Certificate was generously donated for this giveaway by Jillybean Green. There. I said it again.)

Where To Go To Fashion Your Curves

Plus size fashion is a phrase that oft eludes the curvy fashionista, especially when your fashion taste buds crave a Marc by Marc Jacobs, Diane Von Furstenberg, or better yet, something more than casual options so halfheartedly fashioned for our curves.

Yet, there are options! Depending upon your style, lifestyle, or occupation, over the past years, plus size and fashion have married to bring you fashionable options for the discerning plus size woman, who wants a little more in her life than Lane Bryant, Torrid, and Ashley Stewart.

So what are these options? Well, depending upon your tastes, I have rounded up just a few of the best lifestyle brands and designers that cater to your curves:

Lingerie

Wear to Work

Special Occasion

Denim

Each designer and retailer listed provides contemporary plus size fashion options for you and your curves.  For a more detailed list of fashionable resources, you can find more plus size designers listed on my blog, The Curvy Fashionista, as well as international designers who deliver to the United States.

See? There is hope and there are resources!  With your support and feedback, plus size fashion can only foster more and more resources for you and your curves! Keep it Curvy. Confident. Chic!

Real Life Fashion Series #003: L

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Last time; my photography blows and I took it on a phone in my bathroom. In other news, if you can get past the ghetto set up and lack of an actual human being, I dug this out my closet last minute to wear to a work dinner for J. Is it stunning? Maybe not, but relatively chic, comfortable, appropriate for the occasion, and most importantly…free.

I’ve recently been able to drag myself from the depths of the panic that often ensues when one has to pull together an outfit for a particular event. It used to be “ShitIhavetorunoutandbuyadressrightnow,” while recently I’ve been opening my closet around 4:30 PM, only to stare blankly at its contents. (Whether this is due to the economic climate, time restrictions as a result of motherhood, or lack of truly giving a crap, I’m unsure.) This is what I came up with, and if I can do it you can too.

(Trina Turk Velvet Jacket: Nordstrom, Catherine Malandrino Silk Camisole: Loehmann’s, Amrita Singh Gold & Crystal Earrings: Loehmann’s, Cynthia Rowley Vintage Slouchy Pants: Hand me down from my mother, Linea Pelle Gold Leather Clutch: Gomatta Girls, Te Casan by Fay Baldock Silk/Satin Booties: Loehmann’s)
