Edon Manor

Aside from the fact that I kinda want to live here? The shoe selection is ridiculous (think Vivienne Westwood, Proenza Schouler, and Dries Van Noten). A must-see if you’re in NYC, but if not? Surf a little shoe porn in the meantime…

Currently Coveting: BESS Rollover Vintage Leather Boots

BESS Rollover Vintage Leather Boots $460

Not unlike my huge crush on Caleb Followill or an intense craving for Cadbury Creme Eggs (gross), I was sure my boot-lust was simply a ‘this too shall pass’ scenario. Boy was I stupid. Maybe it’s a hearkening back to my 80’s art school roots, but if loving these is wrong? I don’t wanna be right.

Guest Blogger: Deka From “That’s Hideous!”

Friday, January 15th, 2010

I’ve wanted to feature a guest blogger on LASM for quite some time now, but had yet to come across someone that I felt was a good fit…and then I found That’s Hideous. It. Is. Love. Not only is hideous one of my most overused words, the stunning monstrosities that Deka features (including both human teeth jewelry and fetus accessories) are beyond. So get ready, because without further ado I present you with: ‘Gun Hoofs…’

German artist Iris Schieferstein is known for working with dead animal parts and piecing them together to create “a new face to death.” Because she’s an artist, I’m relieved to know that we probably won’t be seeing anyone actually wearing these. I think that PETA would go crazy, and why the guns?! Schieferstein is thought provoking, but definitely a bit scary.

Deka is the founder and creative force behind That’s Hideous, a fashion blog highlighting crazy design, drastically overpriced fashion and things that are just plain ugly.  She can be contacted at deka@thatshideous.com.

Real Life Fashion Series #003: L

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Last time; my photography blows and I took it on a phone in my bathroom. In other news, if you can get past the ghetto set up and lack of an actual human being, I dug this out my closet last minute to wear to a work dinner for J. Is it stunning? Maybe not, but relatively chic, comfortable, appropriate for the occasion, and most importantly…free.

I’ve recently been able to drag myself from the depths of the panic that often ensues when one has to pull together an outfit for a particular event. It used to be “ShitIhavetorunoutandbuyadressrightnow,” while recently I’ve been opening my closet around 4:30 PM, only to stare blankly at its contents. (Whether this is due to the economic climate, time restrictions as a result of motherhood, or lack of truly giving a crap, I’m unsure.) This is what I came up with, and if I can do it you can too.

(Trina Turk Velvet Jacket: Nordstrom, Catherine Malandrino Silk Camisole: Loehmann’s, Amrita Singh Gold & Crystal Earrings: Loehmann’s, Cynthia Rowley Vintage Slouchy Pants: Hand me down from my mother, Linea Pelle Gold Leather Clutch: Gomatta Girls, Te Casan by Fay Baldock Silk/Satin Booties: Loehmann’s)

My Christmas Wish List

My Christmas Wish List

When my friend D (a.k.a. San Diego Momma: Not only is she an excellent and high-larious writer, my girl is crazy smart and a savvy shopper to the tune of a pair of Chloé heels scored at a thrift store for $11. Done.) said that she couldn’t wait to see my Christmas list, my initial thought was, ‘That’s odd. I wonder why she’s interested in what I’m getting the boys, since she has two girls…’ So I’m a total spaz. Although D is quite possibly the only one excited to check this out, I had a hell of a lot of fun ’shopping’ for it and no, it isn’t my real list.

Real Life Fashion Series #002: K

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

My friends hate me, but damn if they’re not great sports! (Note: If I’m going to continue with this series, I need to either get a better camera, or a better eye – most likely the latter.) I accosted K in the schoolyard with an iPhone – hi K! – but it’s her own fault for looking stupid cute.

Before I had kids, I used to subscribe to the theory that my girlfriend Jeff taught me; “Always dress like you’re going somewhere better, later.” Although I’ve (you’ve?) recently slacked in this department, K has clearly not, even though she too shuffles two little (albeit very well dressed) dudes around to games, school and parties like the rest of us commoners. In case you don’t have a naturally taught and tanned bod from years as a gymnast or your current regime of outdoor daily tennis? That tunic dress would also be perfect over leggings. Love her.

(Blinde ‘Accidental’ Sunglasses from Loehmann’s $100-ish, H&M Black Tunic Dress $39.95, Martin+Osa Black Snake Print Shopper $49.75, Steve Madden Black Leather ‘Ballack’ Boots $169.95, Forever 21 Ring $3.80)

Vivienne Westwood’s Purple Rain!

Vivienne Westwood 'Melissa' Bootie Bow in Lilac $124.29

Vivienne Westwood 'Melissa' Bootie Bow in Lilac $124.29

Hell-Ay is dry – bone dry, and although I need these about as badly as a fly fishing excursion, I can’t help but love them. If I remember correctly, it rains and snows in the majority of the continental United States, and if I were there? You bet your butt I’d be wearing these. Yet again, all hail Queen Vivienne who undoubtedly continues to rule…

The 2 Bandits Giveaway: Your Boots Are STOKED.

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

The 2 Bandits Gold & Black Leather 'Riders' $70 (Per Pair)

The 2 Bandits Gold & Black Leather 'Riders' $70 (Per Pair)

Your boots called – they’re bored. They have never been a hotter commodity, yet you continually pile all the jewelry and accessories onto yourself and…ignore them. It’s redemption time for you and your tired boots, because Riders from The 2 Bandits are in the hizzay, and they are amazing! Allow me to clarify: /RYE-derz/ n. Boot harness with brass chains and fine black latigo leather. Adjustable. Sold as a pair. $70. (Boots not included.) You with me? Good, because there’s more.

Founders Erica Chan and Tamar Wider started out making these excellent Bandits to embellish the tops of the boot shaft (I like the studded Edie version, in brown), and eventually branched out to Riders for Fall 2009. How much do I love them? A ton. When The 2 Bandits generously agreed to team up with LASM for a giveaway, how badly did I want to ditch you guys and keep them? Very badly – but I dig you, so here’s your chance to win a pair of black and gold Riders worth seventy bucks, and make your blah boots brilliant! To enter, leave a comment on this post with a brief description of your lame-ass boots that are in desperate need of Riders embellishment. Whoever has the neediest boots? Wins! (P.S. For those of you who can’t wait to see if they’ve won? The 2 Bandits has FREE DOMESTIC SHIPPING!)

All comments must be received by the end of the giveaway on Wednesday November 25th, at 11:59 EST. The winner will be chosen at random, notified via e mail, and announced on L.A. Stylist Mom shortly thereafter. Open to U.S. residents only.
