Fiona Paxton Copper 'Sofi' Long Necklace $357.27

Cover Girl Queen Collection 3-in-1 Nail Polish in 'Copper Penny' $3.09

Marc Bouwer Copper Swimsuit (Image via: WWD.com/Photographed by Tom Concordia)

Inspired by Nine West’s Spring Collection, I am now obsessed with the copper. Spring Blues may the most popular upcoming trend, but wouldn’t copper make an excellent accent color? Think about this: an Alice and Wonderland dusty blue dress paired with a layered copper chain necklace; a blue denim shirt worn with giant copper earrings; or a bright turquoise romper worn with metallic copper heels. These looks could steal the show! Are you interested now?

Above are a few of my favorite copper picks for Spring 2010. I drool over this copper swimsuit by Marc Bouwer; it’s just so fashion forward and bold. More than likely, I will sport my love for copper with jewelry, including the Fiona Paxton Copper ‘Sofi’ Long Necklace from Asos, Candy Heart Earrings from AUNALI Artisan Metal, at Etsy.com and Copper Tone Wood Bangles from Target. If you’re hesitant to give copper a try, you can experiment with the look in a small dose with this Cover Girl Queen Collection Nail Polish, available at Target. So…are you in?

Giveaway! Laura Gibson Blue Quartz Earrings

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Sterling Silver, Blue Quartz, Amethyst, Apatite, Peridot and Pearl Earrings $39.95

Sterling Silver, Blue Quartz, Amethyst, Apatite, Peridot and Pearl Earrings $39.95 (1.5")

Although in ‘the real world’ it seems a bit early to start thinking about Spring, it’s already old news in the fashion realm. Exciting news however, since it includes loads of floral prints, pale pinks, ruffles and generally all things girly (*batting eyelashes coyly*) – a timely backdrop for these delicate and sparkly Laura Gibson earrings.

Crazy, coming from an artist who began her career as a sales and marketing specialist for IBM. Luckily for us Laura did a one-eighty, and bravely decided to pursue her dream of becoming a jewelry designer – props to that Laura! She’s been featured in Harper’s Bazaar UK and InStyle Weddings amongst others, and continues to create her timeless designs from her studio in Tucson. She focuses on a number of collections including Bridal and Breast Cancer Awareness (love), in both white and yellow gold, in addition to her newest pieces in sterling silver. Laura uses what seems like a skillion different stones, too numerous to name, making her collections diverse with something for everyone. I like her stuff because it reminds me of the ‘upscale’ Anthropologie…

Now is your chance to own a pair of LG earrings of your very own! (And if you do, I’ll share with you the outfit I’ve already put together in my head based on their pastel-y gorgeousness!) To enter, visit the sterling silver collection at lauragibson.com, choose the piece you like best, and then leave a comment on this post letting us know what it is and why it’s your fave. That’s it! Extra entries will be given to those who Tweet (Enter to win these gorgeous earrings from @lastylistmom and Laura Gibson! http://bit.ly/64agwT #giveaways) or blog about the contest with a link back to this post, but be sure to let us know with a comment here. Good luck!

*All comments must be posted by the end of the giveaway on Tuesday, January 26th, at 11:59 EST. The winner will be chosen by random.org, notified via e mail, and announced on L.A. Stylist Mom shortly thereafter. One entry per person, with a maximum of three additional entries for Twitter and/or Facebook links to this contest. If winner fails to respond within three days of notification, a new winner will be selected. Open to U.S. and Canada residents ages 18 years or older.

(Laura Gibson generously donated these earrings for the giveaway.)

Real Life Fashion Series #003: L

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Last time; my photography blows and I took it on a phone in my bathroom. In other news, if you can get past the ghetto set up and lack of an actual human being, I dug this out my closet last minute to wear to a work dinner for J. Is it stunning? Maybe not, but relatively chic, comfortable, appropriate for the occasion, and most importantly…free.

I’ve recently been able to drag myself from the depths of the panic that often ensues when one has to pull together an outfit for a particular event. It used to be “ShitIhavetorunoutandbuyadressrightnow,” while recently I’ve been opening my closet around 4:30 PM, only to stare blankly at its contents. (Whether this is due to the economic climate, time restrictions as a result of motherhood, or lack of truly giving a crap, I’m unsure.) This is what I came up with, and if I can do it you can too.

(Trina Turk Velvet Jacket: Nordstrom, Catherine Malandrino Silk Camisole: Loehmann’s, Amrita Singh Gold & Crystal Earrings: Loehmann’s, Cynthia Rowley Vintage Slouchy Pants: Hand me down from my mother, Linea Pelle Gold Leather Clutch: Gomatta Girls, Te Casan by Fay Baldock Silk/Satin Booties: Loehmann’s)

Sterling and Rose Gold 'Tiny Skull Studs' by Anna Sheffield $30

And as you can tell from the grainy photo? They are tiny. Loving that though – edgy, but not up in your grill about it. Regarding the power of direct marketing…literally clicked on these from my inbox, to the site, into the shopping cart. It’s love.

Loving: Modern Classics From PONO

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

PONO Element Bracelets $58

PONO Element Bracelets $58

PONO Pearl and Chain Necklace in 'Gunmetal' $48

PONO Pearl and Chain Necklace in 'Gunmetal' $48

PONO Paradox Earrings in 'Cloud' $55

PONO Paradox Earrings in 'Cloud' $55

Some things are just uniquely beautiful, like Frank Lloyd Wright architecture or Joan Crawford in Mildred Pierce – sturdy and enduring, yet at the same time entirely relevant. Designed in NYC by Joan Goodman, PONO jewelry is no exception with inspiration derived from both classic elements and vintage design. It is the embodiment of “modernism with a timeless ideal,” with each piece solidly crafted from either wood, shell, horn or Italian resin, and reproduced with integrity in Italy.

I’m happy to say that I am the proud owner of the Element Bracelet in Ivory (retailing elsewhere for $285), which I recently showcased as the focal point of an entirely black outfit (save for a pair of champagne colored satin boots that were its perfect complement). I honestly cannot remember the last time I wore something that garnered so much attention, including adjectives like ‘unique’ and ’spectacular.’ I received numerous questions such as, “Is that an antique?” (always a good thing in my opinion), “Did an artist make it?” and of course the ever-popular, “Where can I get one?”

Although stocked by high-end retailers and worn by fashion forward celebs such as Julianne Moore and Hilary Swank, you can purchase the entire PONO collection online at The PONO Annex for a fraction of the price! Necklaces that retail for $575 can be had for $130, and bracelets listed for $100 elsewhere, are available as low as $28. Just in time for the holiday shopping season, PONO has been generous enough to offer an additional 10% discount to LASM readers, from December 1st through December 15th, when you enter code LASTYLE1 at checkout. Just another example of how PONO continues to be eternally stylish…
