New York Fashion Week…

Monday, September 6th, 2010

…is where I’ll be, on the runway and running amok. Another year older and with my kids back in school, I look forward to sleepily reconvening upon my return. Until then.

Real Life Fashion Series #004: M

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

M rules it, hands down. She’s significantly younger than I am and an attorney, which for whatever reason blows me away. Come to think of it, my doctor is also younger than I am. I’ll reevaluate on my own time…moving on. Not only is she crazy smart and ah-mazing with my kids, she is a dear family friend who has traveled as part of our extended ‘vacation posse’ for some years now.

This past beach getaway was no exception, and as we readied ourselves for dinner (and by ‘readied’ I mean slapped my hair into a wet ponytail), this is how M emerged from her room, as adorable as ever in an easy and affordable ensemble. I’m sure she was stoked when I accosted her, demanding grainy iPhone pics to the tune of “Will you be in my Real Life Fashion Series…?!” culminating in her proximity at dinner to my three year old, who promptly had a meltdown about four seconds in. She handled it stylishly, with grace and kindness, like she always does. And this is why we love M… (Oh and P.S. she had these Goody Spin Pins that make the cutest bun and are cuh-razy easy!)

(Forever 21 Silk Shirt Dress $24.99, Nicole Miller Alana Jakarta Satchel $162.50 – M scored hers at RueLaLa for $112, Shoes from ‘some random store for cheap,’ similar pair here, Fossil Chronograph Champagne Dial Watch $125, gifted earrings similar to these, Forever 21 Dainty Floral Connector Ring $4.80)

It’s VIEable: Oversized Roses

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Worn almost as a chic badge of honor, thanks to Valentino and Sonia Rykiel, roses are a HUGE trend in fashion, appearing on both clothing and accessories alike. Having become less camp and more luxe over the years, it’s high time to find the perfect oversized rose for you. From roses that fall in soft knit layers to stiffer petals, and even the more more ostentatious varieties found in leather iterations on a bag, there are all kinds to suit your fancy. Our picks (below) are for both the modest and superfluous rose-wearers – which is your favorite?

Arden B Exploded Rose One Shoulder Top

Kate Spade New York Striped Rosette Tank

Back by popular demand, the talented (and hysterical) Krista Schrock has been generous enough to recreate another beautiful room, based upon this jaw-dropping Christian Dior gown. Once again, I chose several outfits from which Krista make the final selection, only this time I decided to amp it up from Ready-To-Wear to a little couture, because seriously? Who doesn’t need more couture in their life? Don’t answer that.

(Details, pricing and where to buy: CB2 ‘Parlour’ Sofa, West Elm ‘Martini’ Side Table in Persimmon, Neenas ‘Studio Balustrade Candle’ Floor Lamp in French Wax, Anthropologie ‘Sweet As Honey’ Rug, Plunder Room Antiques Green & Yellow Needlepoint Pillow, Walmart Banana Fish Moda Multi-Stripe Decorative Pillow, Hugo Guinness 4 Print Botanical Silouette Set, Hugo Guinness Original Artwork)

Interior designer Krista Schrock has earned a reputation amongst entertainment industry professionals and celebrities as a designer who understands the need to create a fantastic space; one that is truly reflective of individual personalities. She is currently living and working in Los Angeles, and can be reached through her website at www.kristaschrock.com.

If This Outfit Was A Room…

It’s no secret that before I became a stylist I worked as an interior designer. Although no longer my vocation, designing is still a huge part of my life since I never tire of scouring thrift stores and flea markets, or painting and reupholstering over and over…and over again. One of my very favorite interior mags (God rest its soul) was Domino, and I especially loved the section they created combining both my love of fashion and interiors, entitled If This Outfit Was A Room.

When I was fortunate enough to meet the funny and talented Krista Schrock one evening at an L.A. Tweetup, we immediately clicked and knew that a near-future collaboration was a must. With her fantastic eye and discerning taste, she chose this 3.1 Phillip Lim ensemble from several options that I sent her. As you are most likely well aware, I love me some Phil and was far from disappointed with the incredible room that Krista chose and then recreated based on his design. Her color and textural choices are dead on, and I adore seeing the image of the outfit placed directly next to the interior photo – maybe if we’re lucky, Krista will become a regular LASM contributor…? (*nudge-nudge*) For now? Just drink in the gorge.

(Details, pricing and where to buy: West Elm Round ‘Coco’ Mirror, Ballard Designs ‘Bradford’ Chairs, Jonathan Adler White ‘Bel Air’ Lamp, Etsy Pink Ikat Pillow, Jayson Home & Garden ‘Sadie’ Sofa, Wisteria Gold Chinese Garden Stool, Devore Metallic Cowhide Rug, Tonic Home ‘Rollo’ Round Coffee Table, Anthropologie Ottomans, Sebastian Modern Acrylic Armed ‘Ghost’ Chair)

Cannot Get Enough Of: Models Off Duty

Ever wonder what models wear when they aren’t working? Me either. That is until now and IT. IS. GOOD. Rarely do you see such effortless chic outside of Bryant Park, but hey – they’re models. Duh. I haven’t decided if it’s just another online time-sink or a huge coup in the inspiration department; I’m thinking a little from Column A, a little from Column B. Either way they sure are skin…I mean pretty. (modelsoffduty.com)

Weigh-In: What’s Inspiring You…?

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

I realize that this post is totally drowning in lame sauce, but I’m nothing if not brutally honest, right? Right…?! Maybe it’s due to the fact that I’m immersed in the shopping and fashion world on a daily basis, but I just can’t help but feel…blah about what’s out there right now. I know it’s sale season and therefore slim pickins’ but still – give me something. Here’s where you come in; I’d love to know what’s inspiring you right now, in the fashion realm or otherwise. I need a jump start and hey, we’ve all been there. So shoot…
