Fashion’s Night Out Runway Show Video Preview

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

New York Fashion Week is just around the corner and as we’re getting ready for the madness to begin, we’d like to share a video sneak peek of behind-the-scenes of one of the most anticipated runway shows this fall. CBS took its cameras into the planning meetings for the Fashion Night’s Out runway show, for the network’s FNO live television special.

Tickets are already sold out, but as you may have heard, we’re giving away two tickets to what will be New York City’s largest public runway show ever, to be be held at Lincoln Center on September 7th at 7:30 p.m. You can enter by signing up for the launch of ToVieFor, but in the meantime, watch these two preview videos of what CBS cameras captured, as Anna Wintour and international Vogue editors prep and plan for the big night!

(This post is compliments of Julia DiNardo and my fabulous friends at The EnVIEd! Read more about The EnVIEd and ToVieFor, here.)

Giveaway: Win this Vintage Onyx Cocktail Ring from Laura James Jewelry!

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

Laura James Vintage Onyx Cocktail Ring $82

Laura James Vintage Spear Crystal Necklace $220

Laura James Vintage Tiger's Eye + Pink Stone Earrings $98

I first fell in love with Laura James Jewelry and its chic simplicity when I saw her Oval Tag Vintage Necklace on the Max and Chloe website. You can imagine how thrilled I was when she graciously contacted me with thanks for accolades made in a mention on L.A. Stylist Mom, and little did she know that It. Was. On. I was happier still to discover her website, dedicated solely to showcasing both her modern and vintage styles, appropriately entitled Laura James Jewelry (go figure). Her benevolence further manifested itself when she not only agreed to offer a generous 20% discount to LASM readers, but to give away the gorgeous Vintage Onyx Cocktail Ring pictured above. (WOOT!)

While perusing her website, I’ve found that not only is the clean elegance that first drew me to her pieces firmly in tact, but that a modern-vintage, ‘Valley of the Dolls-esque’ feel has since emerged, through use of stones like Tiger’s Eye, Moonstone and Amber (retro-60′s love anyone?) With both ‘Vintage’ and ‘Contemporary’ categories to choose from, James further employs techniques like stamping and carving to achieve a uniquely glamorous feel that I’m clearly digging – you can be too!

From now through Thursday, August 12th, take 20% off at Laura James Jewelry (excluding the Personalized Collection) when you enter discount code LASM20 at checkout! To enter to win the Vintage Onyx Cocktail Ring, just become an L.A. Stylist Mom subscriber using either Bloglovin’ or Feedburner, both conveniently located in the sidebar under ‘LASM Daily,’ leaving a comment on this post letting us know you’ve done so.

Earn up to four additional entries by 1) Tweeting about the giveaway using the handy dandy ReTweet button 2) Blogging about the giveaway with a link back to this post 3) Becoming an @LAStylistMom Twitter follower or 4) Becoming an @LauraJamesJewel Twitter follower. Be sure to leave a comment on this post for each extra entry, or they will not be counted. Good luck from Laura James Jewelry and L.A. Stylist Mom!

*All comments must be posted by the end of the giveaway on Thursday, August 12th, at 11:59 EST. The winner will be chosen by random.org and notified via e mail shortly thereafter. One entry per person, with a maximum of four additional entries. If a winner fails to respond within three days of notification, a new winner will be selected. Open to U.S. and Canada residents ages 18 years or older.

Thanks to Laura James Jewelry, who made this giveaway possible, for their generous donation of a Vintage Onyx Cocktail Ring (an $82 value).

Street Boners Giveaway: You Know You Want One

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

You don’t even know. When I got the pitch to do a book giveaway, my choices were this or two other how-to-dress-for-your-body-type-out-of-your-closet-forever-something-or-other-dryly-written selections. It was a no-brainer. STREET. BONERS. Are you looking at the cover? Do you see it…?! While waiting impatiently for my advance copy, I checked the mailbox more than the time I was twelve and holding out for a reply to my Scott Baio love letter. (Good thing that didn’t pan out. Ew.) When it finally arrived? I was not disappointed.

*Before I continue, allow me to come clean; something you might not know about me (amongst a ton of other things) is that, well…I…er…kind of have the sense of humor of a twelve year old boy. If you turn your nose up at that and/or eschew penis humor, use of the word motherf*cker, political incorrect-ness or didn’t almost wet your pants during ‘Dick-In-A-Box?’ Heads up, because this just might not be your book.

Although Street Boners arrived promptly at dinner time when my kids are most whacked out and the dog needs to pee, I of course ripped right into it. Not only are the pictures themselves high-larious/outrageous/beautiful/ridiculous and on occasion disgusting, they’re also ranked by ‘kitten heads (10 kitties being a ‘day-ruiner’ while 0 are mere ‘shoe-eaters’) not to mention the unparalleled photo commentaries. In addition to his hardcore outfit assessments, Gavin McInnes also includes chapters such as “What Is A Hipster?” and the desperately needed and often dead-on section called ‘The Rules: What To DO And What To DON’T Do,’ with sub-categories like ‘Black Socks’ (appropriately divided by gender) and ‘Not-After-30,‘ a must-read for anyone, male or female, who is, well…after thirty. “In short, if you hate eye candy and laughing your ass off, this book is not for you.”

There’s pretty much nothing I can say that will do it justice without reading it for yourself and…oh look! A giveaway! I am, in fact, giving away a copy of Street Boners to three – count ‘em – three lucky readers. For this one, you just need to subscribe to L.A. Stylist Mom (via Feedburner or Bloglovin’ both conveniently located in the sidebar) then leave a comment on this post letting us know that you did. As always, you can earn up to three extra entries by 1) Tweeting this post using the retweet button 2) Linking back to this post via Facebook or on your blog, or 3) Becoming an L.A. Stylist Mom Facebook Fan, if you haven’t already. If you do any of these things, please let me know in the comments section so that I can be sure to count your extra entries! You have no idea just how badly you want it.

(For those of you unfamiliar with Gavin McInnes, you can check him out at his website, Street Carnage.)

*All comments must be posted by the end of the giveaway on Tuesday, May 11th, at 11:59 EST. The winners will be chosen by random.org, notified via e mail, and announced on L.A. Stylist Mom shortly thereafter. One entry per person, with a maximum of three additional entries. If a winner fails to respond within three days of notification, a new winner will be selected. Open to U.S. and Canada residents ages 18 years or older.

Giveaway From Rice and Beans Vintage!

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Gucci Black Leather Large 'Britt' Handbag

Vintage 1970's Mexican Green Suede Cape

Yves Saint Laurent Leather and Wood Sky High Platform Wedge Sandals

There are few things I adore more than spectacular designer vintage and Rice and Beans Vintage is paramount in this category; I guess one could even call it the shizznit of vintage sites (one being me of course), but it really and truly is. Owner Sarah Korsiak Cellier has an eye that’s dead-on, and her stunning pieces are reflective of her incredible and discerning taste. In a climate where the word vintage is thrown around to describe everything from Courreges to Urban Outfitters circa 1998, Sarah is a true vintage aficionado. (She’s also cool, down to earth and funny as hell.)

With pieces both designer and otherwise, Rice and Beans is not only chock full of gorgeousness, but it’s more reasonably priced than other on line vintage shops. There’s also a section of modern designers as well, including both shoes and handbags, creating the potential to scoop up more recent pieces you might have missed the first time around. I love that Cellier has chosen to include a jewelry section, often my favorite vintage finds and a category commonly overlooked on other comparable sites. Best of all, everything is beautifully showcased with large, clear photos, on an easily navigable and comprehensive site.

Start perusing and choose what you love now, because Rice and Beans has teamed up with LASM to give away a $75 gift card! I’ve featured my personal favorites above, so now it’s your turn to visit Rice and Beans Vintage, choose the item that you dig, and let us know what it is in the comments section of this post. You can also earn up to three additional entries by 1) Tweeting this post (using the retweet button) 2) Subscribing to LASM with Bloglovin’ or Feedburner (conveniently located in the sidebar) or 3) Blogging about this contest with a link back to this post. If you do any of these things, please let me know in your comment so I can be sure to count your extra entries! Thanks for playing and good luck from Rice and Beans Vintage and L.A. Stylist Mom!

*All comments must be posted by the end of the giveaway on Thursday, April 29th, at 11:59 EST. The winner will be chosen by random.org, notified via e mail, and announced on L.A. Stylist Mom shortly thereafter. One entry per person, with a maximum of three additional entries. If a winner fails to respond within three days of notification, a new winner will be selected. Open to U.S. and Canada residents ages 18 years or older.

Giveaway: Mr. Kate Rose Gold Knuckle Ring!

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Mr. Kate 'Logo' Knuckle Ring in Rose Gold $45

Mr. Kate 'Twig' Cuffs (shown in various golds) $94

Mr. Kate 'Cereal' Necklace (available in various metals and cord colors) $24

Mr. Kate 'Mini Nut' Ring (shown in various golds) $36

The only thing cuter than these quirky pieces from Mr. Kate, might just be Kate herself. Not only is she talented (obvy), she is freaking adorable and it makes me love her stuff even more. Knowing the kind of jewelry whore I am, you can understand why this stuff caught my eye. The collection embodies all the things I love (rose gold, found items, whimsical edge) in an original and unexpected way. The ‘Logo’ Knuckle Ring ring reminds me of the ‘Natty Boh’ beer logo, a fine beverage indigenous to my hometown of Baltimore that we used to purchase in high school for $2.99…a case. (That’s how I roll.)

Kate chose her logo as a reflection of her designs, personality and sense of humor. The mustache and beauty mark became her trademark, representing humor (Groucho Marx) and beauty (Marilyn Monroe). Love. I dig Mr. Kate for its originality – it just doesn’t look like anything else out there right now, and that’s kind of tough to do. (Sidebar: Neither does her website with its hand drawn pics and categories labeled with people in mugshot poses – check it.)

So get ready because the lovely (Mr.) Kate has teamed up with yours truly to give away this ‘Logo’ Knuckle Ring in glorious rose gold. You know the drill; to enter, visit Mr. Kate and choose the item that’s your fave, then leave a comment on this post telling us what it is. As always, earn up to three additional entries for 1) Tweeting this post (using the retweet button) 2) Becoming an L.A. Stylist Mom Facebook Fan and 3) Blogging about this contest with a link back to this post. If you do any of these things, please let me know in your comment so I can be sure to count your extra entries! Good luck from Mr. Kate and LASM!

*All comments must be posted by the end of the giveaway on Tuesday, April 6th, at 11:59 EST. The winner will be chosen by random.org, notified via e mail, and announced on L.A. Stylist Mom shortly thereafter. One entry per person, with a maximum of three additional entries. If a winner fails to respond within three days of notification, a new winner will be selected. 'Groovy Guitars' Wet Bag $18-$25

'Groovy Guitars' Wet Bag $18-$25

'Stack It' Recycled Oxidized Sterling Silver and Pearl Rings $98

'Stack It' Recycled Oxidized Sterling Silver and Pearl Rings $98

Jillybean Green makes my heart beat fast. It’s like all the kid stuff I scour the web for, loaded into one happy little spot. And it’s fun to say (you know you just said it). Created by an L.A. mom who adores both her kids and the environment, Jillybean offers alternatives to adopting a greener lifestyle, without having to compromise the ‘hip’ factor. Every manufacturer they work with creates products that are either organic, made with sustainable or recyclable  materials, employ fair trade practices, or are recyclable, reusable and or/non-toxic. They also support local artisans, designers and good old USA manufacturing – woo hoo!

What I love best about Jillybean Green (besides saying it, okay I’ll stop) is the stuff; babies, kids, gear, bath time…moms, JBG has it all! In addition to my picks above, one of my most fave parts of their site are the 100+ items in the Under $25 Finds section, perfect for gift giving and otherwise. (P.S. How cute is that ‘Heart On Your Back’ tee?!) If you happen to be in Los Angeles, Jillybean now has a store located inside the birthday party locale of choice (*drum roll*) The COOP, located at 11118 Ventura Blvd, in Studio City. But  you don’t have to hop a plane to reap the benefits of Jillybean, since they have been generous enough to team up with LASM to offer one lucky ready a $50 gift certificate! As always, entering is easy when you follow these simple steps:

  1. If you haven’t already, become and LASM Facebook Fan or Twitter Follower.
  2. Visit Jillybean Green and choose the item(s) you’d purchase with your gift certificate.
  3. Leave a comment on this post, letting us know the answers to questions 1 and 2. That’s it!
  4. Get additional entries by Tweeting this giveaway (using my new Tweet Meme button), or posting on your site with a link back to this post.

*All comments must be posted by the end of the giveaway on Wednesday, February 3rd, at 11:59 EST. The winner will be chosen by random.org, notified via e mail, and announced on L.A. Stylist Mom shortly thereafter. One entry per person, with a maximum of two additional entries for Tweeting and/or links back to this post. If winner fails to respond within three days of notification, a new winner will be selected. Open to U.S. and Canada residents ages 18 years or older.

(The $50 Gift Certificate was generously donated for this giveaway by Jillybean Green. There. I said it again.)

Giveaway: Chic Workout Wear (I Swear) From IVEE!

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

IVEE 'Ella' Top in Coral/Red $39

IVEE 'Ella' Top in Coral/Red $39

If you know me at all, then it’s no big secret that working out is not my most fave thing on the planet. Pilates? Love, but probably because the only thing missing from the reformer is an ashtray, it’s so relaxing. A brisk walk up the canyon (which isn’t a hike ladies, so stop calling it that)? I’m in, but even then mostly due to the fact that I have a 100 lb. Dane mix, leaving me with little choice. You have a better chance of finding me at REI on a Saturday afternoon than you do on an elliptical, but now that I’m Iveestylin’? It’s almost enough to make me want to treat the treadmill like a runway.

I’ve never featured workout clothes before, and have done quite the decent job of dodging your questions regarding them. This was of course pre-Ivee, who were generous enough to send me this modern and comfy ‘Ella’ top, that I kind of don’t want to take off. (You hear that FTC? They sent it to me. TO REVIEW.) The cut is super flattering, and although it fits snugly in the boobs – complete with removable pads – what I love is that it isn’t skin tight. (FYI I’m a 4/6 on top, and mine is a medium – I could have gone with a small for a smoother silhouette.) My other fave is the ‘Chloe’ top, which like her friend ‘Ella,’ is far more chic than the yawn of a tank top or sports bra (which – Hi! – should not be worn alone and called a ‘top’).

Here’s your chance to ditch your dirty tees and score some Ivee duds of your very own! LASM and Ivee have teamed up to give away a $50 discount code, good on orders of fifty dollars or more! (Go figure.) Simply visit iveestyle.com, choose the item you like best, and tell us about it in the comments section of this post.* If you Tweet or Facebook this link to the giveaway, we’ll throw in an additional entry – do both and we’ll throw in two, so be sure to let us know…good luck!

*All comments must be posted by the end of the giveaway on Wednesday December 16th, at 11:59 EST. The winner will be chosen at random, notified via e mail, and announced on L.A. Stylist Mom shortly thereafter. One entry per person with a maximum of two additional entries for Twitter and/or Facebook links to this contest. Open to U.S. residents only.

The 2 Bandits Giveaway: Your Boots Are STOKED.

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

The 2 Bandits Gold & Black Leather 'Riders' $70 (Per Pair)

The 2 Bandits Gold & Black Leather 'Riders' $70 (Per Pair)

Your boots called – they’re bored. They have never been a hotter commodity, yet you continually pile all the jewelry and accessories onto yourself and…ignore them. It’s redemption time for you and your tired boots, because Riders from The 2 Bandits are in the hizzay, and they are amazing! Allow me to clarify: /RYE-derz/ n. Boot harness with brass chains and fine black latigo leather. Adjustable. Sold as a pair. $70. (Boots not included.) You with me? Good, because there’s more.

Founders Erica Chan and Tamar Wider started out making these excellent Bandits to embellish the tops of the boot shaft (I like the studded Edie version, in brown), and eventually branched out to Riders for Fall 2009. How much do I love them? A ton. When The 2 Bandits generously agreed to team up with LASM for a giveaway, how badly did I want to ditch you guys and keep them? Very badly – but I dig you, so here’s your chance to win a pair of black and gold Riders worth seventy bucks, and make your blah boots brilliant! To enter, leave a comment on this post with a brief description of your lame-ass boots that are in desperate need of Riders embellishment. Whoever has the neediest boots? Wins! (P.S. For those of you who can’t wait to see if they’ve won? The 2 Bandits has FREE DOMESTIC SHIPPING!)

All comments must be received by the end of the giveaway on Wednesday November 25th, at 11:59 EST. The winner will be chosen at random, notified via e mail, and announced on L.A. Stylist Mom shortly thereafter. Open to U.S. residents only.

Giveaway! I Heart Polarn O. Pyret…

Folklore Maternity Tunic $59.50

Folklore Maternity Tunic $59.50

All Over Stripe Eco Leggings (Child) in 'Colonial Blue' $30

All Over Stripe Eco Leggings (Child) in 'Colonial Blue' $30

Wind Fleece Bunting in 'Poppy' $72.50

Wind Fleece Bunting in 'Poppy' $72.50

…for about sixty different reasons! Paramount amongst them, is that fact that not only are their clothes simple, modern, and comfy, 30% of every collection is designed around a UNI(sex) concept. Having not found out the sex of my children during either pregnancy (and having fielded the ridiculous and unending  question, ‘But how will you know how to decorate the nursery?!’ ), by the time of their arrival I was lousy with yellow, green, and white ensembles. Polarn’s newborn ECO collection is not only almost entirely designed with UNI in mind, it’s also made from 100% organic cotton and produced in a green manufacturing process.

Where have they been all your life? Unbeknownst to me, PO.P began in Stockholm in 1976, and has grown to over 100 stores across Sweden and Europe. It’s now available in the United States at polarnopyretusa.com, with retail locations to follow. Had I known about them prior to my first pregnancy, you better believe I would have scooped up their clean and classic signature stripe for not only my babies, but also for myself – that’s right – there’s maternity and nursing wear!

If you’re not already chomping at the bit? PO.P and L.A. Stylist Mom have teamed up to create a FREE SHIPPING code valid through midnight PST on Friday, November 13th; simply enter LAPOP at checkout. We’re also giving away a Wind Fleece Bunting for baby worth $72.50, in the size and color of your choice!* All you have to do to enter is visit polarnopyretusa.com, and leave a comment here letting us know which PO.P item is your fave – that’s it! Good luck, and happy shopping from LASM and PO.P…

All comments must be received by the end of the giveaway on Wednesday, November 18th, at 11:59 EST. The winner will be chosen at random, notified via e mail on Thursday, November 19th, and announced on L.A. Stylist Mom Friday, November 20th. Open to U.S. residents only.

*Size and color choice contingent upon availability.

Giveaway: Sing an Eco-Friendly Tune With Coopersong!

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Coopersong Mid-Hipster Bag in 'Black Eve' (14"H x 12"W) $50

Coopersong Mid-Hipster Bag in 'Black Eve' (14"H x 12"W) $50

Let’s face it; we’re living in a wasteful time. I’m not going to get preachy, but given the opportunity I’ll certainly do my part where I can, since I’m a firm believer that every little bit helps. Coopersong is no exception, with their line of bags and accessories crafted from all-natural, organic, and re-purposed materials. Founder DeAnna Cooper creatively utilizes recycled bicycle inner tubes (that once trekked miles through the Colorado mountains) as the handles on all of her bags. She also features other reclaimed items such as baseball leather, as well as buttons and buckles from the 1940′s.

I happen to love the Mid-Hipster Bag pictured, which would make the perfect ‘un-diaper’ diaper bag; better still when paired with the adorable, polka dotted, Mommy Packs, that include an insulated bottle bag and changing pad. There’s also an awesome retro-print Stroller Bag in a pattern called ‘Women,’ for those of you who prefer a true diaper bag. For kids both young and…not so young (that’s you), be sure to check out the insulated Eco Lunch Bag, that comes in your choice of what seems like a skillion different fabrics – stupid cute!

Now for the best part; if you happen to be in the Los Angeles area this coming weekend, Coopersong is having a trunk show*, with prices ranging from $3 to $90, including numerous styles and items not pictured on their website! Not only will you get the first up-close look at the Fall/Winter 2009 collection, there will be snacks, door prizes and a play area for your little ones, so you can SHOP. IN. PEACE. For those of you not in the L.A. area, L.A. Stylist Mom is giving away a $25 Coopersong gift certificate! To enter, simply visit the Coopersong website, choose your favorite item, and then leave a comment** on this post telling us what it is – that’s it! Hope to see you at the show, and if not, be sure to tell them I sent you!

*The Coopersong Trunk Show will be held on Friday, November 6th, from 1PM-7PM, and on Sunday, November 8th, from NOON-4PM. Please call 310.415.8474 for location and details.

**All comments must be received by the end of the giveaway on Wednesday November 11th, at 11:59 EST. The winner will be chosen at random, notified via e mail on Thursday November 12th, and announced on L.A. Stylist Mom Friday November 13th. Open to U.S. residents only.
