'Tea In Osaka' Long Sleeved Raglan Peasant Top $28

It’s no secret that I have a tough time putting the brakes on purchasing little dude clothes, but if I had girls? It could be a Chapter 11 sitch, and The Trendy Tot would be zero help. This stuff is so crazy cute, that it makes me want to weep for all of its sweetness (those chubby fingers and tiny pigtails could be a contributing factor). I’m a total sucker for any handmade, quilted looking, kids stuff, reminiscent of the things my grandmother used to (and my Aunt Carol still does) seem to so effortlessly whip together.

Jen at TTT is also one smart cookie; her items are made from 100% pre-shrunk cotton, and most of them are ‘season-less’ for close to year-round wear. I also love how she shows the short sleeved tops and dresses, layered over long sleeved tees. She touts her designs as “forgiving of the almighty growth spurt,” with jumpers later becoming swing tops, and peasant dresses turning into, well – you get it. Just in time for the holiday shopping kickoff, enjoy free shipping courtesy of The Trendy Tot and L.A. Stylist Mom, through Friday, November 20th; simply enter LASTYLE in the comments section of the payment process. And hey – if the Elephant Jumper is good enough for Shiloh…? That’s right.

Giveaway: Sing an Eco-Friendly Tune With Coopersong!

Coopersong Mid-Hipster Bag in 'Black Eve' (14"H x 12"W) $50

Coopersong Mid-Hipster Bag in 'Black Eve' (14"H x 12"W) $50

Let’s face it; we’re living in a wasteful time. I’m not going to get preachy, but given the opportunity I’ll certainly do my part where I can, since I’m a firm believer that every little bit helps. Coopersong is no exception, with their line of bags and accessories crafted from all-natural, organic, and re-purposed materials. Founder DeAnna Cooper creatively utilizes recycled bicycle inner tubes (that once trekked miles through the Colorado mountains) as the handles on all of her bags. She also features other reclaimed items such as baseball leather, as well as buttons and buckles from the 1940′s.

I happen to love the Mid-Hipster Bag pictured, which would make the perfect ‘un-diaper’ diaper bag; better still when paired with the adorable, polka dotted, Mommy Packs, that include an insulated bottle bag and changing pad. There’s also an awesome retro-print Stroller Bag in a pattern called ‘Women,’ for those of you who prefer a true diaper bag. For kids both young and…not so young (that’s you), be sure to check out the insulated Eco Lunch Bag, that comes in your choice of what seems like a skillion different fabrics – stupid cute!

Now for the best part; if you happen to be in the Los Angeles area this coming weekend, Coopersong is having a trunk show*, with prices ranging from $3 to $90, including numerous styles and items not pictured on their website! Not only will you get the first up-close look at the Fall/Winter 2009 collection, there will be snacks, door prizes and a play area for your little ones, so you can SHOP. IN. PEACE. For those of you not in the L.A. area, L.A. Stylist Mom is giving away a $25 Coopersong gift certificate! To enter, simply visit the Coopersong website, choose your favorite item, and then leave a comment** on this post telling us what it is – that’s it! Hope to see you at the show, and if not, be sure to tell them I sent you!

*The Coopersong Trunk Show will be held on Friday, November 6th, from 1PM-7PM, and on Sunday, November 8th, from NOON-4PM. Please call 310.415.8474 for location and details.

**All comments must be received by the end of the giveaway on Wednesday November 11th, at 11:59 EST. The winner will be chosen at random, notified via e mail on Thursday November 12th, and announced on L.A. Stylist Mom Friday November 13th. Open to U.S. residents only.

McCartney Designs Children’s Wear For Gap

by Nina Jones

“McCartney’s first full children’s wear collections, done in collaboration with GapKids and babyGap, will be launched Nov. 2 at select Gap stores in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France and Japan. The 70-piece line, which McCartney said she designed to “find a kind of balance between Stella as in what I do for adults…and how I see kids, really,” takes inspiration from both the design signature McCartney has developed in her own collections and her practical experience as a mother of three.”

Giveaway: ‘Black Tie’ Flutter By Leggings (Because sequins aren’t just for big girls!)

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

picture-23

Although I exist in a world rife with dudes (and therefore the requisite dude duds), it doesn’t keep me from occasionally longing to dream up a tiny outfit that includes a dress or two; enter these shimmering ‘Black Tie’ leggings from Angela Frost’s ‘Flutter By’ collection, and boy (girl?) do I ever heart them!

The fall fashion season is lousy with sequins, and apparently not just for grown-ups. These leggings are cool and edgy, yet at the same time mange to remain sweet, unlike some other ‘big girl-turned-little girl’ fashion I’ve seen. I’m also loving the ‘Zippity Doo Da’ version, which come in five delicious colors with names like ‘Tang’ (a juicy orange), and a yummy shade of green called ‘Sour Apple,’ complete with trompe l’oeil ‘lace.’ An added plus? Everything in Angela Frost’s collection is locally made – sewn, dyed, and printed in a single factory located in sunny Southern California.

Even though it’s most likely chilly where you are, now is your chance to win a little slice of SoCal. We’re giving away a pair of ‘Black Tie’ leggings to one lucky little girl (a $45 value), just in time for the holidays! All you have to do to enter, is sign up to become a fan of L.A. Stylist Mom on Facebook, leaving a comment on this post letting us know that you did. The winner will be announced here, on Thursday, October 29th. Good luck!

*All comments must be received by the end of the giveaway, on Wednesday October 28th, at 11:59 EST. The winner will be chosen at random, and notified via e mail on Thursday October 29th. Open to U.S. residents only.

Park Vogel Boys' Henley Top in 'Pearl Grey' $14.50 (Retails for $29)

Every once in a while, I have that second child guilt about R. I mean seriously? Dude gives himself a round of applause when he’s done something cool, since so many times J and I are too busy to be perpetually up in his mug like we were with Z; This feeling also applies to his wardrobe. I spent so much time searching for the perfect outfit in which to bring Z home from the hospital. R? Usually wears whatever happens to be left over. As a result, I end up buying new things in Z’s size, since they will inevitably end up on his little (for now) bro.

Beginning in September, the majority of Z’s life will be spent in a school uniform, so instead of picking up these easy and adorable Park Vogel shirts in his size, I got them in his brother’s. (Okay I’ll come clean – they only had them in R’s size, but in my defense the uniform rationale did kick in.) I was fortunate enough to score them at Hautelook last week for about half price, but you can check them out – along with the precious girls’ stuff – at parkvogel.com. Albeit a bit pricey, it’s still not outrageous, and I adore the modern, wholesome, European vibe. Not to mention? They belong solely to R as his very own – brand new with tags and everything…

Bargain Of The Week: Kids’ Converse

Converse Kids Chuck Taylor All Star 'Ox' in 'Black/Classic Green'

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Slip-On Toddler Shoes in Green

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Slip-On Toddler Shoes in Green

I am currently in the hazy cloud of having just returned from a weekend away in Palm Springs – sans kids. Although for all intents and purposes I should have arrived home looking and feeling rested, I find the acclimation process to be difficult at best. In addition to sweltering dry heat temps in excess of one hundred and fifteen degrees, part of the Palm Springs experience (for me at least) is the outlet stores. I always go with grand visions of Gucci, YSL, Bottega, and Marni, and more often than not, roll back into L.A. with a car full of mini sneakers. I guess there are worse things. (I did however, score a great pair of neon-pink, patent leather, flat sandals, at the Barneys outlet for forty bucks!)

In addition to the fact that they are first and foremost outlet stores, there are currently tons of extra markdowns and sales, due to both the end of the season and crappy economy alike. Good news for those of us whose kids need shoes (*snort*), because when do they not?? I got the ‘Ox’ pair for Z for $14.97 (they presently retail at Zappos for $43.95), and the slip-on pair for R for seven bucks (available at Amazon for $30). In my opinion, worth it if you have a Converse outlet near you.

I also wisely (or so I thought) purchased a size up for both boys – so as to have a ‘reserve’ of sneaks for the coming months – and was subsequently quite happy with myself. It seems that I am subconsciously rejecting the fact that my kids are getter bigger by the minute, since this morning they both popped on their respective pairs (which fit perfectly) and happily bounded off to camp. Now, not only do I need to purchase school sneaks again? Maybe this time I’ll be a bit more astute about it.

Milk On The Rocks 'Icons' Jacket

Milk On The Rocks 'Icons' Jacket

'Icons' Detail

(L to R From Top): Yoko Ono, Alfred Hitchcock, Frieda Kahlo, Benazir Bhutto, Reverend Run, Albert Einstein, Jackson Pollack, Debbie Harry, Superman, Rosa Parks, and Christiane Amanpour

Cut me some slack, since I am solely responsible for the less than stellar photography. Dark, blurry, crappy angle…easy to see that I spent about eleven seconds in the darkroom in college, and subsequently ended up a painting major – not to mention that I took them on my phone. Nice.

Regardless, I cannot get enough of this jacket from Milk On The Rocks! Neither can J, and we’ve collectively decided that we probably love it way more than Z, for whom it was purchased. I got it on Hautelook a few weeks back for thirty-eight bucks, marked down from something ridiculous like a buck twenty-five. I figured since it has a zip-out lining, I’m actually getting two coats for the price of one, that two little guys are going wear. It’s waterproof nylon so it doubles as a rain coat, the fleece-y part is super soft, blah, blah, blah…

Practicalities aside, it’s the little, random (in both placement and context) icon renderings, from which I will never recover; SO brilliant and even more hilarious! In addition to those pictured, my faves include Jimi Hendrix, Nelson Mandela, and David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust. We’re on the fence as to the lower right hand corner, but we’re pretty sure that it’s Krista McCauliffe – thoughts…?

Diaper Bags From Felix Rey!?

Felix Rey 'Toys & Trinkets' Eco Diaper Bag $360

Felix Rey 'Toys & Trinkets' Eco Diaper Bag $360

You might have first heard about Felix Rey when they did their oh-so-lovely Target collaboration, of which I am a huge fan. My adoration started way before that, however, and boy do I wish that this was around when I was hunting for the diaper bag that I’d carry for the next three years. (I ended up with the Fleurville Mothership, which doesn’t hold a candle in the cute department.) In addition to their gorgeous clutches, handbags and beach totes, Lily Rafii Band and Soulaika Zarrouk have luckily for us, branched out into mommy gear!

Their ‘Toys & Trinkets’ diaper bag is not only eco-friendly (made from organic unbleached cotton), it’s stylie and practical in it’s simplicity; a welcome reprieve from the dreadful over-design that seems to be diaper bags of late. In addition to two front patch pockets (one which houses an adorable teddy bear that looks suspiciously like someone clocked him in the eye), there are two interior zipper pockets, and one on each side for bottles. There’s also an adjustable and removable shoulder strap, a quilted changing pad, and an 8″ x 13″ zip top pouch, perfect for stinky diapers or dirty duds. The other good news is that at 17″W x 14″H x 5″D, there’s plenty of room for your stuff too – nothing  more cumbersome than having to schlep a diaper bag and a purse. It’s also not a bad gig for when dad needs to haul it out; most can be exponentially worse in the girlie-department.

Although $360 may seem a bit steep, take it from a pro – this is the perfect scenario to do a ‘times carried vs. cost’ breakdown. Like I said – you’ll be towing this baby for some time, especially if you’ve got more than one little darling. You’re also in luck! If you purchase ‘Toys & Trinkets’ online between June 22nd and July 6th, you’ll receive 20% off when you enter code FR-LASMOM20 at checkout. Yet another reason to love Felix Rey…
