Krazy For Kristinit!

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Kristinit Organic Linen Jumpsuit $265

(Detail)

I bought an engagement ring for this jumpsuit. It is stunning in all of its feminine, modern simplicity, and surprisingly constructed from 100% organic linen (the jumpsuit not the ring, obvy). It features a gorgeous sculpted neckline and deep pockets (which I completely dig, even though I have never once put anything in them – what’s up with that), along with a flattering tie-neck halter and deep back.

Designer Kristina Lenss says that “Kristinet’s mission has always been to design with more than just style in mind. The line uses innovative organic fabrics, local manufacturing and fair trade practices, and continues to donate a percentage of each sale to One Percent For The Planet, as well as the Pachamama Alliance.”

Do-gooding aside, I think she designed a kick-ass jumpsuit that I cannot wait to call my own. You can too, since they’ll be available at Petro Zilia (love) in Los Angeles, and Purdy Girl in New York City at the end of this month. But wait! If you order yours by e mailing kristina@kristinit.com between now and March 15th, you’ll receive 30% off when you mention coupon code LA30 at the time of check out. Go. Because everyone else is, too.

Bargain Of The Week From H&M…Again

Monday, March 8th, 2010

H&M 'The Garden Collection' Eyelet Tunic $14.95

I would wear this a skillion and one times this summer…as a dress…with linen pants…or jeans…as a bathing suit cover-up. You get it.

Outfit Pick: H&M Under $200!

Friday, March 5th, 2010

One of the things that has always been a huge drag about H&M, is that you can’t shop online (unless you speak German). You can however, check out their stuff, and with the addition of their Fashion Studio, you can now waste hours of your precious time mixing and matching various outfits on an underwear-clad model (think paper dolls for big girls). You can even choose a ‘head’ for your model in order to emulate ‘your’ coloring, to perhaps get a better idea of what the outfits might in fact look like on you. I’ve taken the liberty of putting together this little ensemble, which is a most reasonable two hundred bucks for everything. It’s also a good transitional outfit from winter to spring. That is all. (Price of jeans estimated at $39.95)

Golden Globes Best Dressed: January Jones

Perfecksh: January Jones in Lanvin, and black satin Brian Atwood ‘Wagner’ pumps…with her dad. Too sweet! My best dressed runners up include Emily Blunt and Chloe Sevingy (I’m ready for the backlash on that one.) In my ‘worst’ column, I’ve placed Cher, Tina Fey and Heidi Klum. Yikes. Who’d you pick…?

Real Life Fashion Series #003: L

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Last time; my photography blows and I took it on a phone in my bathroom. In other news, if you can get past the ghetto set up and lack of an actual human being, I dug this out my closet last minute to wear to a work dinner for J. Is it stunning? Maybe not, but relatively chic, comfortable, appropriate for the occasion, and most importantly…free.

I’ve recently been able to drag myself from the depths of the panic that often ensues when one has to pull together an outfit for a particular event. It used to be “ShitIhavetorunoutandbuyadressrightnow,” while recently I’ve been opening my closet around 4:30 PM, only to stare blankly at its contents. (Whether this is due to the economic climate, time restrictions as a result of motherhood, or lack of truly giving a crap, I’m unsure.) This is what I came up with, and if I can do it you can too.

(Trina Turk Velvet Jacket: Nordstrom, Catherine Malandrino Silk Camisole: Loehmann’s, Amrita Singh Gold & Crystal Earrings: Loehmann’s, Cynthia Rowley Vintage Slouchy Pants: Hand me down from my mother, Linea Pelle Gold Leather Clutch: Gomatta Girls, Te Casan by Fay Baldock Silk/Satin Booties: Loehmann’s)

High/Low: Tutu Tank Dress

Delia's 'Natalie' Colorblock Knit Dress $54.50

Maybe it’s the leftover ’80’s in me, but I’m digging this look for parties. Throw on some black opaque tights, black booties, a short leather jacket and I’m in. (Note: A jacket longer than the dress will make you appear to be a flasher.) And be sure the accessories are chic (vintage or tough luxe would be perf) so you don’t look like you’re four. I’m just sayin’.

It’s sunny in L.A – very sunny. ALL THE TIME. Before you say ‘Oh poor baby’ in that sarcastic tone, it really does makes it quite difficult to feel cozy around the holidays. On the flip side? 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Hi! This would be the sum total of daylight hours in Scandinavia during the Christmas season, which thankfully marks a festive and happy reprieve from days spent living in the dark. Beginning in the first week of December, you’d be hard pressed to find a window sill that isn’t bright with advent candles or tiny stars, sparking the lead off to a celebration that lasts well into the middle of January – I’m in.

Not only am I on board? So is my new fave kid’s clothing company, Polarn O. Pyret! They’re kicking off the season with a to-die-for Holiday Collection, including cozy Snowman and Winter Wonderland body suits for baby. Their toasty Organic Cotton Pajamas, are perfect for snuggling up in candlelit rooms with cinnamon rolls and hot chocolate, enthusiastically anticipating the Scandinavian tradition of St. Lucia Day. The festivities shift into high gear on Christmas Eve, when the tree is decorated with traditional ornaments made from straw, candy and gingerbread. *Sigh* A welcome respite from LA, I can almost feel the warm fire on my cheek as I watch the snow falling outside and…*STARTLING RECORD SCRATCH*

An unfortunate side effect to long days spent celebrating? They’re freaking long, and after scarfing down baked goods and chugging chocolate – not to mention the maniacal sugar aftermath that often ensues – your kid’s clothes can look pret-ty crappy. Those Swedes think of everything, everything I tell you since their lovely Holiday tops, blouses and dresses are not only loose fitting for comfortable all day wear? You can throw them in the wash. Yep. All of ‘em. Even that gorgeous velvet party dress.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get better, it does. In addition to their gift of no dry cleaning, Polarn O.Pyret is now offering a whopping 35% off of the entire Holiday Collection, in addition to the rest of the site (excluding Classic Stripes and sale items), now through December 12th; simply enter code HOLLYPOP at checkout! They’re also launching a special St. Lucia’s Eve celebration, with their ‘12 Holly Days’ Advent Calendar, from December 12th – 24th. One window per day will be opened to reveal yet another gift – a specially selected item at 40% off! Be sure to check out polarnopyretusa.com, as well as their Facebook Fan page for details. In the meantime…? I’m moving to Sweden.

Real Life Fashion Series #002: K

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

My friends hate me, but damn if they’re not great sports! (Note: If I’m going to continue with this series, I need to either get a better camera, or a better eye – most likely the latter.) I accosted K in the schoolyard with an iPhone – hi K! – but it’s her own fault for looking stupid cute.

Before I had kids, I used to subscribe to the theory that my girlfriend Jeff taught me; “Always dress like you’re going somewhere better, later.” Although I’ve (you’ve?) recently slacked in this department, K has clearly not, even though she too shuffles two little (albeit very well dressed) dudes around to games, school and parties like the rest of us commoners. In case you don’t have a naturally taught and tanned bod from years as a gymnast or your current regime of outdoor daily tennis? That tunic dress would also be perfect over leggings. Love her.

(Blinde ‘Accidental’ Sunglasses from Loehmann’s $100-ish, H&M Black Tunic Dress $39.95, Martin+Osa Black Snake Print Shopper $49.75, Steve Madden Black Leather ‘Ballack’ Boots $169.95, Forever 21 Ring $3.80)
