Krazy For Kristinit!

Kristinit Organic Linen Jumpsuit $265

(Detail)

I bought an engagement ring for this jumpsuit. It is stunning in all of its feminine, modern simplicity, and surprisingly constructed from 100% organic linen (the jumpsuit not the ring, obvy). It features a gorgeous sculpted neckline and deep pockets (which I completely dig, even though I have never once put anything in them – what’s up with that), along with a flattering tie-neck halter and deep back.

Designer Kristina Lenss says that “Kristinet’s mission has always been to design with more than just style in mind. The line uses innovative organic fabrics, local manufacturing and fair trade practices, and continues to donate a percentage of each sale to One Percent For The Planet, as well as the Pachamama Alliance.”

Do-gooding aside, I think she designed a kick-ass jumpsuit that I cannot wait to call my own. You can too, since they’ll be available at Petro Zilia (love) in Los Angeles, and Purdy Girl in New York City at the end of this month. But wait! If you order yours by e mailing kristina@kristinit.com between now and March 15th, you’ll receive 30% off when you mention coupon code LA30 at the time of check out. Go. Because everyone else is, too.

Outfit Pick: H&M Under $200!

Friday, March 5th, 2010

One of the things that has always been a huge drag about H&M, is that you can’t shop online (unless you speak German). You can however, check out their stuff, and with the addition of their Fashion Studio, you can now waste hours of your precious time mixing and matching various outfits on an underwear-clad model (think paper dolls for big girls). You can even choose a ‘head’ for your model in order to emulate ‘your’ coloring, to perhaps get a better idea of what the outfits might in fact look like on you. I’ve taken the liberty of putting together this little ensemble, which is a most reasonable two hundred bucks for everything. It’s also a good transitional outfit from winter to spring. That is all. (Price of jeans estimated at $39.95)

Overalls: They’re Ba-aack!

Free People 'Vintage 1' Overall $348 (*choke*)

Yeah they are, and not just from Free People either. Designers like Alexander Wang, See By Chloé, and 7 For All Mankind (just to name a few) have all hopped on the overall tractor, er…bandwagon. I’m 99% sure I have a pair not dissimilar to these, leftover from art school, at the bottom of a drawer somewhere. I also have a somewhat cleaner pair that I wore more than I’d like to admit during my pregnancy with Z. I guess what I’m not doing a very good job of saying, is that overalls have a place, I’m just not positive that it’s on a rack with a $350 price tag. She sure does makes them look cute though, but then again she’d look cute in a grill and a mullet. Tell the truth – are you on board…?

Weigh-In: Jeggings, Yay or Nay? (And Introducing…Veggings!)

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

C&C California Stone Washed Jegging in 'Billie Jean' (WTF?) $128

My friend’s baby wears them, which with those little croissant legs never fails to slay me. I can’t honestly say that I’m a fan of the spraypaintyourjeanson look for my short legs own body type (pipe down), but had I been born with the above pictured gams? I could potentially be singing a different tune. You…? (Oh, and click here to behold the ‘Vegging,’ a.k.a. velvet + leggings. I’m trademarking it.)

Real Life Fashion Series #003: L

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Last time; my photography blows and I took it on a phone in my bathroom. In other news, if you can get past the ghetto set up and lack of an actual human being, I dug this out my closet last minute to wear to a work dinner for J. Is it stunning? Maybe not, but relatively chic, comfortable, appropriate for the occasion, and most importantly…free.

I’ve recently been able to drag myself from the depths of the panic that often ensues when one has to pull together an outfit for a particular event. It used to be “ShitIhavetorunoutandbuyadressrightnow,” while recently I’ve been opening my closet around 4:30 PM, only to stare blankly at its contents. (Whether this is due to the economic climate, time restrictions as a result of motherhood, or lack of truly giving a crap, I’m unsure.) This is what I came up with, and if I can do it you can too.

(Trina Turk Velvet Jacket: Nordstrom, Catherine Malandrino Silk Camisole: Loehmann’s, Amrita Singh Gold & Crystal Earrings: Loehmann’s, Cynthia Rowley Vintage Slouchy Pants: Hand me down from my mother, Linea Pelle Gold Leather Clutch: Gomatta Girls, Te Casan by Fay Baldock Silk/Satin Booties: Loehmann’s)

Weigh-In: Are Bootcut The New Mom Jeans?

Friday, January 8th, 2010

J Brand 'Indigo' Bootcut Jeans $185

J Brand 'Indigo' Bootcut Jeans $185

I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, and it’s reeeaaally begun to weigh heavily on my mind. Not. I did however pose the question on Twitter the other night, “How do we feel about bootcut these days…?” and got an interesting and varied number of responses. No doubt skinnies have reigned supreme the last few seasons (and I’ll be the first to admit that I was late to the bandwagon due to my height and body type), but have they managed to obliterate bootcut for good? I have to say, that when I pull mine on and look in the mirror I think, “Over.” Then there’s a part of me that loves to wear them with my worn-in cowboy boots and a vintage blouse, à la Lori Maddox when she was nailing Jimmy Page and hanging at The Riot House…that’s mostly on the days when I let my hair go ‘curly.’ What do you think? Potential to become classics or just done? Go…!

Elie Tahari Necklace $298

Not only was I fortunate enough to spend a lovely holiday week in Palm Springs surrounded by family and friends, I received a gift of a shopping trip to one of my most favorite places: The Desert Hills Premium Outlets. Although this might sound like the seventh ring of hell to some, there is nothing that I love more than the cheap challenge of an outlet, and Desert Hills has some good ones. Amongst the requisite crap-fest that is True Religion, Liz Claiborne and UGG, you’ll also find YSL, Gucci, Barney’s, Saks, Jimmy Choo and Bottega Veneta to name (literally) just a few. Per usual, I came away with my arsenal of tiny VANS, but I also managed to score some great stuff for myself.

Clearly, the outlet deal is that it’s mostly (okay entirely) post-season, so the images shown are the closest I could find without having to subject you to more of my own photographic obscenities. I scored the Mid-City tote (minus the weird shiny leather – mine is matte) at the Saks outlet for $300; they also had the larger ‘City Tote’ version for $339. In lieu of the Chocolate ones pictured, my satin DVF pants are olive green. They’re also akin to wearing pajamas, cost a mere $59.50, and are the pants shizz-nit for Spring 2010 (more on that later). My necklace is actually a pale dusty-rosy-lavendery…ish color, and is a gorgeous complement to the gunmetal chains and rhinestones; it also doubles as a belt. Although a somewhat impractical buy even on sale ($100), I was unable to divorce myself from it since I know I will wear it a skillion times. I’ve always said that it’s the little things, and a dreamy day in my world it was…

Levi's 539 Organic Cotton Eco Vintage Jeans in 'Shadow' $39.99

Just a few of my faves for the dudes on your list! FYI for the seemingly randoms; the Noonon Polo is stupid soft cotton and an incredible fit. I bought one for J, I should have bought five. The jeans also have an amazing cut and wash, not to mention they’re eco, and for just forty bucks…?! I’m not a fan of ‘fashion’ sneakers (*shudder*), so keep it simple and classic with a sturdy pair of JPs. If you’re looking to splurge, do it on to-die-for cuff links he’ll adore, or a modern-classic Paul Smith wallet, because who doesn’t love Paul Smith?? (If you don’t, keep it to yourself.)

(Shout Out to the FTC: This post was not sponsored by any of the above vendors, nor did I receive a single item of swag.)

Real Life Fashion Series #001: D

Monday, November 9th, 2009

lastylistmom3

Craptastic Photography Courtesy Of: Moi

Further proof that just because you’re a mom, doesn’t mean you can’t be fashionable. (And without having to spend a lot of cash.) Exhibit #001: D. At home, on a Sunday afternoon, look cuter. (And yes my chic mommy friends, beware; this does in fact mean that you are now fodder for my website.) After telling her about seven times how much I was digging her outfit, D sweetly acquiesced and allowed me to take her photo…and grill her about her ensemble item by item (details below). Yet another opportunity to demonstrate that having kids isn’t synonymous with looking schlubby. Thanks D! xoxo
