That’s right, I said the F word – in July. Probably because I awoke to rainy weather, in the mid-fifties, on July 6th in Hollywood. Unheard of. It’s something I go through every season, after the initial thisiswhatshotrightnow fashion hype dies down and I’m in the throes of mid-season barren sales racks and redundant looks. Regardless, check out this (super) early sneak peek for Fall 2010 – that rabbit shrug is my new boyfriend.

Okay, so I ripped off Calypso’s cheat sheet for a fraction of the price. By popular demand, I composed my own…er…Old Navy’s – a reasonable facsimile – for a modest $335! Not bad for an entire summer wardrobe…

I’m digging this one. I want it.

Allow me to start with a disclaimer: 1) I know this is an ad 2) I’m not suggesting that you run out to Calypso St. Barth and spend a fortune on everything in this photo. Now then – let’s begin. This? Genius. Well-played Calypso marketing department! *clap clap clap* Bookmark it, because I couldn’t have put it together any better, and although it’s touted as ‘the art of packing light,’ this could very well be the only cheat-sheet you need for the rest of the long, hot summer.

These pieces are light, current, interchangeable and forgiving. This kind of summery, European-style dressing is not only unbelievably chic without trying too hard, it’s also crazy comfortable and easy to put together – the pieces are the equivalent of Garanimals for grown-ups! It’s exactly the type of mix-and-match dressing that will stretch a few simple pieces into multiple outfits, with the help of some current accessories to make these gauzy staples feel even more relevant.

Whether you choose from items you already have in your wardrobe, or use these picks as a guideline to look for the cheaper versions (i.e. linen pants, light sweaters and sheer tees in neutral colors), this my friends is a succinct summary of what I believe the perfect summer wardrobe looks like. And those clog sandals are mine…

When I saw this statement necklace by Tom Binns, I wanted to rip it off the mannequin and wear it right then and there. Who could resist these red candy-like hearts, safety pins and crystal chains? It’s cute and edgy at the same time. I want, want, want! Too bad it costs more than $1,000…

There’s more: a broken tea cup necklace inspired by the Mad Hatter tea party and a chain-and-charm necklace featuring all kinds of images from the movie.

I also really liked the Charlotte Tarantola cardigans inspired by the film. Once again, the cute-yet-edgy look is prevalent with ruffles on the placket, a Tarantola signature. The black-and-white lace printed cardigan was my favorite.

And the pièces de résistance, the Sue Wong dresses. The Flower Wonderland-Inspired beaded gown ($588), with a tulip petal skirt, is gorgeous. And the Red Queen-Inspired dress ($388), which is really black, is very cool.

And check out the lobby of the W Hollywood. It’s very open and modern, though I question the use of British terms such as “lifts” for elevators and “WC” (i.e. “water closets”) for restrooms. I bet the hotel will change that WC to restrooms soon enough. Anyway, a walk through the hotel’s Delphine restaurant yielded a modern take on art deco decor that I liked a lot. Too bad they were full (supposedly, with reservations, despite having many empty tables) and couldn’t seat us. Maybe another time.

One of the things that has always been a huge drag about H&M, is that you can’t shop online (unless you speak German). You can however, check out their stuff, and with the addition of their Fashion Studio, you can now waste hours of your precious time mixing and matching various outfits on an underwear-clad model (think paper dolls for big girls). You can even choose a ‘head’ for your model in order to emulate ‘your’ coloring, to perhaps get a better idea of what the outfits might in fact look like on you. I’ve taken the liberty of putting together this little ensemble, which is a most reasonable two hundred bucks for everything. It’s also a good transitional outfit from winter to spring. That is all.
