My friend’s baby wears them, which with those little croissant legs never fails to slay me. I can’t honestly say that I’m a fan of the spraypaintyourjeanson look for my short legs own body type (pipe down), but had I been born with the above pictured gams? I could potentially be singing a different tune. You…? (Oh, and click here to behold the ‘Vegging,’ a.k.a. velvet + leggings. I’m trademarking it.)

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010My Sister’s Fashion Contribution: Winkers
Friday, October 2nd, 2009OMFG. From this one? I might never recover. To say that my sister and I are at opposing ends of the fashion spectrum, would be…well…an understatement of colossal proportions. She does, however, have a sense of humor that rivals no other. (Case in point, an evening in Italy some time back while getting ready for a night out, she proclaimed with a heavy sigh, ‘Every night is prom night for (insert my name here)’. It’s no surprise that she was the one that sent me this video (thanks M!), and it is high-larious. I’m on the fence as to which is my fave – the Owl? Or the Clapperboard? Anyone…? (P.S. Note the music; eerily reminiscent of the soundtrack to Amber Waves’ documentary on Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights.)
(Disclaimer: M is in no way associated with the ‘Winkers’ corporation, or the production of this video advertisement. She was simply the magnificent courier that brought it to my attention.)
Five Eighties Trends I (Still) Can’t Believe Are Back
Tuesday, September 8th, 2009
I had the leggings version of this. It was 1986. They were from The Limited.
Who’s That Girl? Apparently now a British yogi, but fashion won’t ever let her forget her roots. Hi Madge!
Any thrift store, any city, five bucks.
Billy Idol called.
I can’t even entertain this.
I’m back…and I’ve got the Loehmann’s scores to prove it!

Forgive me as I am ever so slooowly re-immersing myself back into my ‘real’ life (dog puke anyone?). Have I mentioned that I’m not amazing with transition…? With kindergarten, haircuts, and uniforms on the back burner (for now), historically one of the first things I do upon retuning to my hometown, is ditch the kids, jump into the car with my mom (the best shopper on the planet for about sixty different reasons) and head to the local Loehmann’s.
The sale was on, and the discounts were gorgeously deep. I tried to focus more on my day-to-day ensembles, rather than shopping for all those amazing nights out that usually only happen in my head. I think I did okay, save for the impractical Pucci beach tote that I just couldn’t pass up ($120 down about seven times from a ludicrous $715 – WTH?!), and The Steve Madden (WTH x 2, since I usually cannot stand SM) platforms that I still think are kind of slutty. Regardless, they make my fat feet look cute as do the gladiators, so there. Oh, and the chandelier earrings! (Mine are, incidentally, all clear stones.) On second thought, not such a stellar job on the day-to-day wear. At least I managed to eek out some jeans and tees, but boy will those slutty shoes look hot in a parallel universe…
Denim Fit Fundamentals: Finding Your Size
Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009Levi’s 631: Really?
Monday, March 16th, 2009
I was at Trader Joe’s today sans kids, and aside from being euphoric because I was able to shop alone, I took note of a few things. Let me preface this by saying, that the T.J’s I frequent happens to be in ‘the’ hipster neighborhood (not mine). Barring the fact that shoppers are generally too cool to smile at you, it also looks as if perhaps everyone works at Urban Outfitters. I felt old. Not because everyone was young (ish) and hip, but because so many of the trends were being regurgitated back at me from my very own past. Case in point? The bleached skinny jeans. How many nights were spent in my parents’ basement, Clorox in hand, trying to attain the perfect yet serendipitous spottiness? I’m guessing not as many as were consumed by ‘tapering’ the finished product at my mother’s old Singer. And for what it’s worth? ‘Bleached Skinny Jeans Girl’ was also wearing neon pink nail polish.
Martin and Osa Jeans (Who…?)
Sunday, October 12th, 2008I realize that I so infrequently write about pants, most likely because I have such a difficult time with them myself. It takes me what seems like forever to find a cute pair of pants or jeans, with a good fit and a decent price tag. It’s one of those things that I seem to put off until I notice that I have a closet full of tops and accessories.
I went shopping on Saturday at a new-ish place in L.A, called The Americana. It was decent (H&M, Anthropologie, a great kid’s store called Peek), however aptly named. I came across this weird store called Martin and Osa. I say weird since it felt oddly familiar, and after listening to the sales girl’s spiel about how it ‘came about’ (read: was marketed), I asked her who owns it; “American Eagle,” she said hesitantly. Aha. It struck me as a store solely created to fill the need for ‘Casual Friday wear.’
That being said, she had on some really cute jeans. Great wash and fit, and she had them cuffed at the bottom to ankle length – surprisingly flattering. She was more than happy to share that they were in fact Martin and Osa brand, and promptly led us in their direction. Being the end of a long day, I was beat, but my friend D tried them on. They were adorable. Again, flattering with an old-school, 1950’s, Levi’s vibe. Backstory aside, I wanted to share them with you since I know first hand what a nightmare finding a decent pair of reasonably priced jeans can be. Besides, she did offer us mini Fiji waters…
Paper Denim and Cloth Jayne Jeans
Tuesday, August 19th, 2008I just bought these jeans the other day and I could not be happier. I LOATHE jeans shopping. I’m 5′4″. Enough said. I just brought them to the tailor today and am thrilled. Took my fave Marc Jacobs stack heeled boots with me, and had them hemmed accordingly. I hadn’t ever tried PDC jeans before and I’m glad I did. Since I’m short and a bit curvy, I’ve always worn Sevens, J-Brand or my trusty old school Levi’s. (And Diesel if my ’skinny’ jeans count.) I love the way these fit my body, and above all they are comfortable and flattering. Check them out if you haven’t already!
