In keeping with the whole Father’s Day vibe, check out this behind the scenes video from London Fashion Week, September 2009. (Which – obvy – is really Spring/Summer 2010. CHH.) In addition to some riveting eye candy, be sure to note the part twenty seconds in where Adrian Clark states that London menswear is “becoming very much more wearable,” as it immediately cuts to a runway model in gold gladiator sandals and skeleton tights. *blink* Your hubby would look smokin’…
Paul Smith Multi-Stripe Double Billfold Wallet $220
Alternative Apparel Noonan Polo in 'Blue Slate' $38
Converse Jack Purcell CP OX in Charcoal/White $50
Thompson London Blue Carnival Skull Cuff links $102.90
Levi's 539 Organic Cotton Eco Vintage Jeans in 'Shadow' $39.99
Just a few of my faves for the dudes on your list! FYI for the seemingly randoms; the Noonon Polo is stupid soft cotton and an incredible fit. I bought one for J, I should have bought five. The jeans also have an amazing cut and wash, not to mention they’re eco, and for just forty bucks…?! I’m not a fan of ‘fashion’ sneakers (*shudder*), so keep it simple and classic with a sturdy pair of JPs. If you’re looking to splurge, do it on to-die-for cuff links he’ll adore, or a modern-classic Paul Smith wallet, because who doesn’t love Paul Smith?? (If you don’t, keep it to yourself.)
(Shout Out to the FTC: This post was not sponsored by any of the above vendors, nor did I receive a single item of swag.)
James Perse Lightweight Jersey Long Sleeve Crew in 'Vintage Pigment' $55
Persol Brown Tortoiseshell Classic Sunglasses $276
Red Envelope Hidden Message Collar Stays $39.95
J. Fold 'Loungemaster' Wallet in Black and Orange $60
J and I have been together a long time, and if I do say so myself, he’s accrued some pretty great gifts. Of course many of them have been as a result of my vocation, and the fact that he is the ‘dude’ version of a sample size – must be nice. I honestly cannot remember if the above pictured items were all given for Father’s Day, but they are actual gifts that J has received from us at one time or another. They’re also his favorites.
I’ll begin with the disclaimer that although it isn’t the cheapest list an the planet (albeit not the priciest), I got the shirt and sunglasses at Loehmann’s for around twenty and forty bucks respectively. (I also got the glasses in black…score.) The shirt may look simple, but J has never loved anything more, except maybe his other James Perse tees. The cotton is super soft and the cut is fantastic – flattering even for just a plain t-shirt. The Persols are classics and speak for themselves; sporty and cool, but equally appropriate for sunny L.A. days with a suit. (Just be sure that if you’re fortunate enough to also score a black pair, you don’t accidentally leave them on the roof of your car and back over them in your driveway.)
The ‘Hidden Message’ collar stays although seemingly cheesy, were a coup the likes of which I never could have imagined; you would have thought I had gotten him Zeppelin tickets. He had apparently been using the gratis plastic ones that came with a random dress shirt, and would subsequently switch them from one shirt to another on a daily basis. They also make them in what they refer to as ‘racy’ messages, and if you think the ones shown here are lame? I promise you they are the lesser of the evils.
I dig J. Fold; durable, utilitarian, cool, and fashionable. Not only are they really well made and reasonably priced across the board, they’re available in a ton of colors and styles. J has a brown nu-buck Loungemaster, with black leather interior and bright blue edging. I also got him the brown pebbled leather card holder edged in the same blue – a bit superfluous, but a nice gift nonetheless. Now that I’ve run down the litany of gifts from Father’s Days past, anyone have any suggestions for this year? I have yet to make a purchase…
