Last time; my photography blows and I took it on a phone in my bathroom. In other news, if you can get past the ghetto set up and lack of an actual human being, I dug this out my closet last minute to wear to a work dinner for J. Is it stunning? Maybe not, but relatively chic, comfortable, appropriate for the occasion, and most importantly…free.
I’ve recently been able to drag myself from the depths of the panic that often ensues when one has to pull together an outfit for a particular event. It used to be “ShitIhavetorunoutandbuyadressrightnow,” while recently I’ve been opening my closet around 4:30 PM, only to stare blankly at its contents. (Whether this is due to the economic climate, time restrictions as a result of motherhood, or lack of truly giving a crap, I’m unsure.) This is what I came up with, and if I can do it you can too.
(Trina Turk Velvet Jacket: Nordstrom, Catherine Malandrino Silk Camisole: Loehmann’s, Amrita Singh Gold & Crystal Earrings: Loehmann’s, Cynthia Rowley Vintage Slouchy Pants: Hand me down from my mother, Linea Pelle Gold Leather Clutch: Gomatta Girls, Te Casan by Fay Baldock Silk/Satin Booties: Loehmann’s)
I love, love, love this one, if I do say so myself! I think it would put any girl in the holiday party mood, so book your Mystic Tan now and get ready to whip out the beer bong! Just kidding…wanted to see if you were paying attention.

It’s that time of year again – Spring, and is it ever crammed with weddings, graduations, bar mitzvahs, and showers, not to mention general warmer weather soirees. Fun? Sure. Expensive? Most definitely. Add to that the additional stress of having to find a flattering outfit that won’t break the bank, and the party atmosphere can quickly give way to a feeling of dread. I’ve compiled a cheat sheet of reasonably priced, figure flattering dresses, in hopes that I can alleviate some of the anxiety that surrounds what should be an otherwise enjoyable party season; So buckle up, and don’t forget your Spanx…
Overlooking the fact that she is in desperate need of a sandwich therefore making this ‘it really is super cute’ top look weird? It really is super cute. I recently picked up a couple at Loehmann’s (in black and white) under the name ‘Eight Sixty,’ but it’s the exact same shirt. For so long I found myself looking for a comfy top (one that didn’t belong to J) to throw on with jeans; Not a fitted tee, not a button down, and not a sweater, rather something that would look kind of cool without trying too hard. Not only are these super soft cotton, even though they’re slouchy they’re still sized to fit, so it doesn’t appear that you’re lost in your boyfriend’s (husband’s) boxy t-shirt. Surprisingly flattering, it’s a great casual-chic look (whatever the hell that is) for night, teamed up with jeans, heels, and a great necklace. Originally marked at twenty eight bucks, it also comes in gray and purple.
This is an interesting article by Emili Vesilind from the Los Angeles times. It raises some good questions, and also provides links to more fashion forward plus size clothing, including Rachel Pally White Label from Nordstrom.
Ruby & Bloom 'Grace' Ballerina Flats in Blush Patent $69.95
Last weekend after a trolley ride, Z and I swung by Nordstrom in The Grove, where these darling little flats caught my eye. While the color is beautiful, I was especially drawn to their shape. My feet, although only a seven, tend to be a bit (*clears throat*) wide. On the rare occasion that I actually dare smash them into a flat with a rounder toe, they look like bulging sausages. There was none of that happening with these – I didn’t buy them, but I also haven’t ruled it out. The price is right, especially for the pink; A comparable Lanvin pair are going for $530 at Barneys! *SIGH* Someday…
I would have to say that my most favorite item of clothing is a buttery-soft, silver leather, Valentino trench, that I paid three hundred bucks for twenty years ago (see ‘Things In My Closet That I’ll Wear Forever’). I love how metallics act as a ‘neutral,’ especially since I’ve never really been a basic black kind of a girl. They’re also on my short list of ‘Ten Trends for Spring 2009′ – besides – for fifty bucks how can you not get it?
UGG Australia 'Amelie' Linen Ankle Wrap Wedge $38.90
Do my eyes deceive me, or has UGG come up with a nifty little summer sandal? Let me tell you what I don’t need: A shoe that embodies the dichotomy of the most lightweight summer fabric possible, teamed up with fleece – VISIBLE FLEECE. Odd; These babies have been marked down a mind-reeling 60%, from a hundred bucks to less than forty. Wonder why…?
