Marysia Swim Demi Plie One Piece $176, Ballerina Top $97 and Bottom $98 (Squire Fox)

“Icons Marilyn Monroe and Brigitte Bardot famously posed in fuller-cut swimwear and came off sexier than any bikini-clad Sports Illustrated cover girl could. If you want to channel that retro style at the beach, try posing this summer in something from Marysia Swim.”

It’s that time again and it’s enough to make me want to hurl. At least I’m not alone; I received this letter in my ‘Ask’ section the other day and am positive that AAC isn’t the only one feeling unprepared to dive head-on into swimsuit season. I’ve taken the liberty of listing some body-flattering swimwear categorized by – shall we say – problem area. Although not the cheapest options, I chose them based upon color, cut, style and of course what flatters. Jump in – the water is warm. Sort of…

Hi LASM!

Hope all is well! Loving the wedges posted this week – finally motivated me to order a pair and jump on the bandwagon. Heading off to Hawaii in a couple of weeks for Spring Break and facing the need for a bathing suit. I really fear baring my winter white body that hasn’t seen the inside of a gym in a while! Any suggestions? Size 8, pear shape and small bust. Thanks!

Bargain Of The Week: Hayden-Harnett Kira Hobo

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Hayden-Harnett Kira Hobo in 'Eucalyptus' $216.80

Hayden-Harnett Kira Hobo in 'Eucalyptus' $216.80

Jump on this, because a bag this gorge, at this price, won’t be around long, I promise. Originally marked at $542, this is not only a deal? It’s a downright steal, not to mention the versatility of grey which will carry you through several seasons. And again – love the vintage modernity that is Hayden-Harnett. Combine that with quality and it’s a no brain-er; I must say I’m a little bummed that I’m not in the market for a new handbag, but do you really need to be…? (P.S. I scored the $200 H.H. Clio Maillot in ‘Boudoir’ I was coveting a while back, for for fifty bucks! See?! It pays to shop off season – I’m just saying.)

I want it: Hayden-Harnett ‘Clio’ Maillot

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

Hayden-Harnett 'Clio' Ruffled Maillot in 'Boudoir' $198

Hayden-Harnett 'Clio' Ruffled Maillot in 'Boudoir' $198

It would be physically impossible for me to be more in love with this swimsuit (unless of course the model who is wearing it looked a bit less like she’s trapped in solitary at Pelican Bay), a term that I am still getting used to saying in lieu of bathing suit – I also still call it a ‘purse’. This maillot is the perfect marriage between stylish and appropriate, a combo that can often seem elusive in the world of one piece swimsuits. The ‘Boudoir’ print has been hand drawn by Hayden-Harnett art director Madeleine Eayrs, and feels quite contemporary; It also reminds me of that pink powder room wallpaper from the fifties that has the dressing table ‘stuff’ all over it (powder puffs, perfumes bottles, poodles). Drawback? Not so sure that I’ll be shelling out two hundred greenbacks to sit in it on the concrete by the kiddie pool saying, ‘Good job buddy!’

Spiegel Tie-Front Bandeau Swimsuit

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Speigel Tie-Front Bandeau in 'Dahlia' $39

Spiegel Tie-Front Bandeau in 'Dahlia' $39

Spiegel is kind of weird in my opinion, but this is a great suit. In a time when a swimsuit can regularly run you easily a hundred bucks, thirty-nine is pretty realistic – especially when you can wear it four different ways. It has a removable halter strap and built in shelf cup bra, which is always a plus. I find it to be equally cute no matter how you wear it; It’s also available in black or white. (P.S. Pretty sure she’s in Positanonice Spiegel!)
