Summer Outfit For $100

Summer Outfit for $100

While I am fully aware that it is mid-April, my car thermometer read an astounding one hundred and seven degrees in the parking lot of Z and R’s school today. WTH? Needless to say, I threw together the lightest and most comfortable outfit I could dig up, and boy was it an eyesore. You know how you have those outfits that you would never wear out in public, yet you deem them perfectly acceptable to walk to the trashcans/newspaper/mailbox in front of your house? I wore that to pick-up, followed up by a jaunt to the pediatrician. Nice. Anyhow, if I had a couple extra bucks this would be a cute alternative, not to mention? Before you know it, it’ll be a hundred and seven in your neck of the woods. (P.S. Requisite substandard photo aside, this little embroidered dress is way cuter than it appears here; It’s 100% cotton, and has little pin-tucks in the back with tiny covered buttons. It’s also available in black!)

The ‘Ugly’ Shoes

The 'Ugly' Shoes

So this season, there is a particular contingent of shoes that I affectionately refer to as the ‘Ugly’ Shoes. You know the ones; They’re a mix of gladiator, platform, color block, huarache, and Candies, with a little bit of Pat Benatar and Mad Max thrown in for good measure. ‘Ugly’ however, does not imply (as one would think) that I don’t like them – quite the opposite, actually. Granted, they had to grow on me, but once they did I’m now obsessed with finding the perfect pair. The thing that I find really interesting about them, is that it’s often difficult to tell the cheap ones from the crazy expensive ones. This is a good thing, since when purchasing trendy shoes (and I’m pretty certain that the ‘Uglies’ won’t become a staple any time soon) it’s always nice to be able to get them on the cheap, since you could quite possibly end up hating them, or more than likely wearing them only once. Some of the shoes shown here, will run you upwards of eight hundred bucks, others you can pick up for around twenty-five. Can you tell the difference? Click to Polyvore to find out!

Ten Trends For Spring 2009

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Spring '09

1. Lavender: That deep, winter-y, purple, has loosened its choke hold to make way for its lighter counterpart.

2. Skins: On everything from headbands to gowns, this is the season for python, ostrich, stingray and more!

3. Jumpsuits: Although no one can do them quite like Pam Grier, they’re a fresh take for a dinner party or an evening out.

4. Neutrals: Despite the fact that it’s not particularly groundbreaking, the good news is that this ‘trend’ is already in your closet.

5. Cutout Shoes: Spring takes the ‘cutout’ to the next level, with gerbil-worthy, cage-esque heels, as well as more user friendly versions.

6. Embellishment: From accessories to t-shirts, this season is loaded with beads, studs, grommets and sequins.

7. Pendant Necklaces: Store your statement pieces in the back of the jewelry box, to make way for a more subtle look.

8. Slouchy Pants: Keep your eyes open for this more relaxed and fluid cut, but be forewarned; It’s a fine line between slouchy and sloppy.

9. Metallics: Yes still, and on everything.

10. Neon: *SIGH*

(Disclaimer: While I am forever grateful for each and every comment you make, please remember that these are only EXAMPLES of trends, as I do not expect you to run out and drop 2600 bucks on a lavender Fendi gown.)
