I’ve been looking at these shoes for literally months now, and I think I’ve been holding off due to the fact that I’m still not ready for a heel so high. Whether it’s an actual physical or purely mental block remains to be seen, but that’s another post. The cost has certainly been no deterrent, since for forty bucks I think these are adorable. They kind of fall into the category of the ‘Ugly Shoes’ I wrote about a while back, in that you can’t really tell if they cost ten bucks or a thousand bucks – at least from a distance anyway. If you order them, let me know how comfortable they are; until then, I’ll keep looking. (Sidebar: They also come in brown and red, which appear to be somehow cheesier than the purple, no…?)
Lela Rose for Payless 'Arcady Birdseye' Bow Slingbacks in Red $38
No one is more surprised than I am that I’m featuring a Payless shoe. Albeit a designer collaboration with Lela Rose, the Payless in my brain is where (back in ’88), I would purchase black patent flats with grosgrain bows, on a monthly basis. These were to complement my tuxedo get up (complete with A-line polyester mini), that I wore to my college gig as a waitress in a downtown ‘French’ pre-theater establishment; It was sheer hell. All of it.
Thank God a lot has changed, including the face of Payless. Bionic leg permitting, I would buy these babies in about two seconds – so pretty, and versatile. I’m picturing them with a gorgeous summer dress, or my silk cropped slouchy pants (love). They’d also be perfect for a wedding, or teamed up with a pair of linen city shorts. Be sure to check out the ‘Cornell’ Large Ring Tote while you’re there – forty bucks and stupid cute!
Steve Madden 'Vanishh' Wedge Sandal in Brown-Multi $33.85
No doubt about it, the wedge is the shoe for spring. With so many to choose from – wood, straw, leather, suede, python – these caught my eye for both their price tag and originality. I love the girlie-ness of the satin, and that they have a groovy ‘Studio 54′ vibe yet still feel relevant. You can’t beat thirty-three bucks either, especially when they’re at Zappos for seventy!
