Dress Perfection From Hayden-Harnett

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Hayden-Harnett 'Lee' Dress in Bright Kaleidoscope $288

Hayden-Harnett 'Libra' Dress in Dusk Kaleidoscope $278

Hayden-Harnett 'Bibliotheque' Dress in Sunset $233

Hayden-Harnett 'Takama' Dress in Flax/Chevron $268

Hayden-Harnett has got it going on in the originality department. My very favorite swimsuit that I’ve ever owned came from them, complete in all its hand-drawn-patterned glory – hi Clio! This summer’s batch of modern dresses is no exception. Cheap? No so much, but then again who can put a price on not looking like everyone else. Not only are the patterns, cuts and workmanship stunning, these dresses are also comfy and forgiving, even on my pear-shaped bod. The ‘Lee’ is my personal fave, and the chic ‘Bibliotheque’ can also double as a tunic. Be sure not to miss their unique bombshell swimsuits in some of the same delicious prints…

Bargain Of The Week: Spool No. 72 ‘Flea Market’ Dress

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Spool No. 72 'Flea Market' Dress $64

Amazing. This is the perfect summer dress for a myriad of reasons; sure it’s eyelet (let’s all beat a dead horse, shall we?) and reminds me of a pinafore dress that I had in the 70′s, but in a good ‘Virgin Suicides’ kind of way. The off-the-shoulder thing is huge too, making room for ethnic inspired beaded earrings and necklaces like this, and although your instinct may be to grab those metallic flat sandals of seasons past? I’d make this frilly frock a bit less precious with motorcycle or cowboy boots (yes, really). Too much? Try a brown or neutral colored chunky leather sandal…like these or their cheaper counterpart, these…

Calypso’s 10 Days Of Style!

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Allow me to start with a disclaimer: 1) I know this is an ad 2) I’m not suggesting that you run out to Calypso St. Barth and spend a fortune on everything in this photo. Now then – let’s begin. This? Genius. Well-played Calypso marketing department! *clap clap clap* Bookmark it, because I couldn’t have put it together any better, and although it’s touted as ‘the art of packing light,’ this could very well be the only cheat-sheet you need for the rest of the long, hot summer.

These pieces are light, current, interchangeable and forgiving. This kind of summery, European-style dressing is not only unbelievably chic without trying too hard, it’s also crazy comfortable and easy to put together – the pieces are the equivalent of Garanimals for grown-ups! It’s exactly the type of mix-and-match dressing that will stretch a few simple pieces into multiple outfits, with the help of some current accessories to make these gauzy staples feel even more relevant.

Whether you choose from items you already have in your wardrobe, or use these picks as a guideline to look for the cheaper versions (i.e. linen pants, light sweaters and sheer tees in neutral colors), this my friends is a succinct summary of what I believe the perfect summer wardrobe looks like. And those clog sandals are mine…

Ten Trends For Spring 2010

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Ten Trends For Spring 2010 (Click to Polyvore for details, where to buy and pricing.)

1. Lucite: It’s not just for strippers anymore.

2.  If you’ve got the legs, shorts are the shizznit for Spring.

3. Neutrals: Nude is the new black.

4.  Loving this lingerie inspired dress from Calypso. Note: The word inspiration is key; your bra is not a shirt.

5. Bright accessories add a modern glow to warm your winter gloom!

6.  Feminine is back, complete with pretty pastels and rows of ruffles.

7. Safari styles infuse a sense of adventure, and add a rough-hewn edge that balance out girlish silhouettes.

8.  From swimsuits to sandals, patterns and prints cover everything this season.

9.  Go for sheer sheaths and translucent tees, but do yourself (and us) a favor – wear something underneath.

10. The clog sandal is so super seventies? It makes me want to throw my car keys in the bowl…
