Ten Trends For Spring 2010 (Click to Polyvore for details, where to buy and pricing.)

1. Lucite: It’s not just for strippers anymore.

2.  If you’ve got the legs, shorts are the shizznit for Spring.

3. Neutrals: Nude is the new black.

4.  Loving this lingerie inspired dress from Calypso. Note: The word inspiration is key; your bra is not a shirt.

5. Bright accessories add a modern glow to warm your winter gloom!

6.  Feminine is back, complete with pretty pastels and rows of ruffles.

7. Safari styles infuse a sense of adventure, and add a rough-hewn edge that balance out girlish silhouettes.

8.  From swimsuits to sandals, patterns and prints cover everything this season.

9.  Go for sheer sheaths and translucent tees, but do yourself (and us) a favor – wear something underneath.

10. The clog sandal is so super seventies? It makes me want to throw my car keys in the bowl…

My Christmas Wish List

My Christmas Wish List

When my friend D (a.k.a. San Diego Momma: Not only is she an excellent and high-larious writer, my girl is crazy smart and a savvy shopper to the tune of a pair of Chloé heels scored at a thrift store for $11. Done.) said that she couldn’t wait to see my Christmas list, my initial thought was, ‘That’s odd. I wonder why she’s interested in what I’m getting the boys, since she has two girls…’ So I’m a total spaz. Although D is quite possibly the only one excited to check this out, I had a hell of a lot of fun ’shopping’ for it and no, it isn’t my real list.

Afternoon Skirt in 'Flint' by XCVI $102

Afternoon Skirt in 'Flint' by XCVI $102

SO exciting. I can definitively say that I have found you a website that has skirts and dresses that are not only chic and modern, but playground-friendly. *WHEW* The ‘capri alternative’ has been a leitmotif since I started this site over a year ago, and although I’ve found some pieces here and there, I had yet to find a site that was self-contained. Hi Artfulwears!

I’ll begin by saying that the site is hit or miss. I found that with the majority of pieces, I either loved or hated them, but to each his own. They have a copious amount of inventory, of which I seem to have chosen two of the more expensive pieces. Artfulwears touts itself as ‘an online specialty boutique’ offering over two-hundred different designers, and includes jewelry and handbags. A plus? They apparently have outstanding customer service, for which I am a stickler.

I am LOV-ing both the Two Pocket Dress and Afternoon Skirt; they feel clean, current, and a bit futuristic, evocative of (and I know I’m being generous) 3.1 Phillip Lim. Not only could you throw them on with flip-flops for a quick trip to the park, I would later team them up with some metallic flats and statement jewelry for an evening bar-b-q or garden party (*SNORT* Like I’ve ever been to a ‘garden party’ per se, but hey – it sounds good). I think they’d also carry you through the seasons beautifully, when you add a chunky sweater and boots for fall. That’s pretty versatile if you ask me, therefore giving you more bang for your buck – besides, that dress looks awfully forgiving.

Alexander Wang Motorcycle Jacket for Gap

“Khaki has a few less-than-fashionable connotations — those frumpy, pleat-front slacks that always seem to have a cellphone holder clipped to the waistband, for instance. But the staid staple is about to get a lot more stylish with the Gap Design Editions collection created by Alexander Wang, Albertus Swanepoel, Lisa Maycock and Sophie Buhai of Vena Cava.”

It’s that time of year again – Spring, and is it ever crammed with weddings, graduations, bar mitzvahs, and showers, not to mention general warmer weather soirees. Fun? Sure. Expensive? Most definitely. Add to that the additional stress of having to find a flattering outfit that won’t break the bank, and the party atmosphere can quickly give way to a feeling of dread. I’ve compiled a cheat sheet of reasonably priced, figure flattering dresses, in hopes that I can alleviate some of the anxiety that surrounds what should be an otherwise enjoyable party season; So buckle up, and don’t forget your Spanx…

Idil Vice ‘Nico’ Dress

'NICO' Velvet Underground WARHOL Print Dress by Fashion Rocks $89.95

'NICO' Velvet Underground WARHOL Print Dress by Fashion Rocks $89.95

At the risk of being redundant, the Santa Anas are in full force, which in addition to being ungodly hot means that either my power or phone will go out any second – I had better type fast. I can’t think of anything cooler (in both definitions of the word) than this comfy ‘NICO’ dress from Idil Vice. Part of the ‘Fashion Rocks’ printed dress collection, it’s one of many that include Blondie, Elvis Costello, Ian Curtis of Joy Division, and the New York Dolls amongst others (are you paying attention Biss?!). I’m partial to Nico since not only was she a style icon of her own accord, along with Lou Reed she was The Velvet Underground – enough said. Not only is this a great summer dress for just kicking around, it would also make a super cute swimsuit cover up. Idil told me that these are hugely popular with her pregnant clients, as a reprieve from those tiresome maternity clothes. Having been nine months pregnant in the dead of August myself? I could have used one. (Enter code STYLISTMOM at checkout to receive $10 off any item!)

Summer Outfit For $100

Summer Outfit for $100

While I am fully aware that it is mid-April, my car thermometer read an astounding one hundred and seven degrees in the parking lot of Z and R’s school today. WTH? Needless to say, I threw together the lightest and most comfortable outfit I could dig up, and boy was it an eyesore. You know how you have those outfits that you would never wear out in public, yet you deem them perfectly acceptable to walk to the trashcans/newspaper/mailbox in front of your house? I wore that to pick-up, followed up by a jaunt to the pediatrician. Nice. Anyhow, if I had a couple extra bucks this would be a cute alternative, not to mention? Before you know it, it’ll be a hundred and seven in your neck of the woods. (P.S. Requisite substandard photo aside, this little embroidered dress is way cuter than it appears here; It’s 100% cotton, and has little pin-tucks in the back with tiny covered buttons. It’s also available in black!)
