Fiona Paxton Copper 'Sofi' Long Necklace $357.27

Cover Girl Queen Collection 3-in-1 Nail Polish in 'Copper Penny' $3.09

Marc Bouwer Copper Swimsuit (Image via: WWD.com/Photographed by Tom Concordia)

Inspired by Nine West’s Spring Collection, I am now obsessed with the copper. Spring Blues may the most popular upcoming trend, but wouldn’t copper make an excellent accent color? Think about this: an Alice and Wonderland dusty blue dress paired with a layered copper chain necklace; a blue denim shirt worn with giant copper earrings; or a bright turquoise romper worn with metallic copper heels. These looks could steal the show! Are you interested now?

Above are a few of my favorite copper picks for Spring 2010. I drool over this copper swimsuit by Marc Bouwer; it’s just so fashion forward and bold. More than likely, I will sport my love for copper with jewelry, including the Fiona Paxton Copper ‘Sofi’ Long Necklace from Asos, Candy Heart Earrings from AUNALI Artisan Metal, at Etsy.com and Copper Tone Wood Bangles from Target. If you’re hesitant to give copper a try, you can experiment with the look in a small dose with this Cover Girl Queen Collection Nail Polish, available at Target. So…are you in?

Bargain Of The Week: Rodarte For Target Kimono Raincoat

Rodarte for Target Kimono Floral Print Hooded Raincoat $39.99

Rodarte for Target Kimono Floral Print Hooded Raincoat $39.99

Unless I float away first, I’ll be picking one of these up this afternoon. Yes, I do not own a raincoat. This actually caught my eye on my first in-store run through, to which I wisely thought, “What do I need a raincoat for?” and passed it by. Again, although noted as a ‘Junior’ item, it is generously cut and of course much cuter in person. Targ certainly is giving me a run for my money in the photo department though…

Bargain Of The Week: Rodarte for Target Crepe Lace Print Dress

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Rodarte for Target Crepe Lace Print Dress in 'Oxford Tan/Black' $34.99

Rodarte for Target Crepe Lace Print Dress in 'Oxford Tan/Black' $34.99

Not-so-real-life-friendly styling aside (which I actually think is kinda cool), this little sheath is comfy, forgiving and versatile. I should know since I fell in love on a quick ’stocking-stuffer’ trip to Target with Z, who I subsequently dragged into the dressing room to his happy squeals of, “Mommy, try it on!” (*blink*) Not only is he the most patient shopper on the planet, he gives great feedback for a five year old dude – no, really.

Long story long, this dress was one of my faves in the Rodarte for Target collection. I wore it to a party on Christmas Eve, with a vintage black Dolce & Gabbana cardigan, black opaque tights, and tan satin Te Casan booties with black leather piping. The best news is that it’s going to be just as cute this summer, sans tights, with flat sandals. And if you’re headed to check out the collection (I know I’m late to the game most of you have already been cut me some slack I have kids whatev) skip the tulle and head straight to the surprisingly decent fitting lace cardigans – if there are any left. For what it’s worth, Z approved of those as well.

(P.S. Although the word ‘Juniors’ is noted in the dress description, this particular dress is generously cut, and I was able to purchase the size I usually wear.)

Target: Spring Style 2009

Monday, April 13th, 2009

For more details go to FlipGloss

So once again it’s a new season, and Target has some really cute Spring stuff – stuff that shockingly doesn’t involve a designer collaboration. Just good old Merona and Mossimo, trendy and cheap just the way we like it. While perusing this super cool look book (courtesy of FlipGloss), be sure not to miss my faves, including the Merona ‘Paddington’ Jacket in Orange ($34.99 and quite possibly the perfect Spring jacket), the light blue Aviator sunglasses ($14.99), and the Merona Notch Collar Split Neck Dress ($24.99). I especially like that when you click on the link below the image, it provides you with thumbnails of related images and collections. I’m sure I’ll be back with more designer for Target collaborations soon enough, but until then, be sure not to flip past those great Felix Rey bags I posted about a while back; They’re in a store near you as we speak!

Tracy Feith for Target

Tracy Feith for Target

Navy Shift Dress With Pink Embroidered Flowers (Right)

Tracy Feith for Target

Black Leather Motorcycle Jacket $139.99

Tracy Feith is probably most well known for the ‘morning after’ dress he created for Michelle Obama. Being an avid surfer and subsequently hugely ‘beach’ influenced, he’s been on the west coast for years in high end department stores, amongst others. I’ve always been drawn to his vivid and flirty dresses for both their comfort and beauty, yet what I wasn’t so crazy about were the price tags; Enter Target. Feith has collaborated with the retail giant for yet another GO International campaign. While it appears to have some classic Feith hallmarks in both ease and print (fifteen of them are his original patterns), it somehow feels younger to me than his earlier collections. It could also be the twelve year old models and/or the styling; Much like the McQ Alexander McQueen campaign, I think I like the pieces better separately. I’m especially digging the navy shift embroidered with pink flowers, as well as the cropped motorcycle jacket – so cute and the jacket for spring. The good news is not only is it actually leather, it’s also the costliest item (at $139.99) in the sixty piece collection. The rest will run you from $14.99 to $44.99, and will be available both in-store and online, from May 17th through June 27th. I’m on the fence. You…? (Sidebar: I’m pretending that I don’t know the brunette model is on The City – thank God I don’t know her name.)

Felix Rey for Target Totes

Designers Lily Band and Sulaika Zarrouk of Felix Rey, have jumped on the Target bandwagon with their signature accessories line. They will create a limited edition line of handbags, debuting in select Target stores nationwide and on target.com, March 29th through June 14th. These summer-y totes are not only simple and elegant, but can be yours for a fraction of the cost of the originals. Yet again, Target makes fashionable accessible. Thanks Target!

Closet Organization 101

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

No – this is not my closet. I wish. Mine is instead a rather nondescript and somewhat dark space (upon moving in, I decided that it was ‘better’ than the one with the light that J now occupies – WTH?), with a lone hang bar and narrow shelf. That being said, it is fairly roomy as far as closets go, and I don’t have to share it with anyone. I tell you all of this because I did something a few weekends ago that is seemingly a no-brainer, yet no less of a metamorphosis; I actually got rid of all the things that I didn’t wear. I don’t mean some, I mean I got really honest with myself and did a complete overhaul. So much so, that when my mom went to borrow some shoes she exclaimed, “What happened to all of your clothes?!” The important part of this equation is the outcome – I now feel like I have exponentially more outfits from which to choose. It’s true. I’m not sure how it happened but it did, so I’ll give you some tips on how it went down, in hopes that you too can feel like you have more to wear.

  • If it’s too small, out it goes. No more ’saving’ things for when I finally lose those last ten pounds.
  • IKEA shoe bags. Aside from my heels that aren’t in ‘heavy’ rotation (they reside in labeled boxes on the shelf), getting my shoes up and off the floor allows me to actually see what is available, outwardly increasing my selection.
  • Get rid of what you aren’t wearing. Aside from classic pieces and event dresses, if it wasn’t worn recently (in over a year-ish), it was gone. Allow me to add that storage space in my house is at a premium, so there’s no love lost when purging.
  • Group items together. Again, I don’t think that I’m imparting groundbreaking information, but grouping items together by kind, allows me to now find things more easily – imagine that.
  • Things you don’t wear regularly go in the back. Along the lines of the shoe bags, having things front and center allows me to feel that more options are available; If you can see it, you’ll wear it.
  • A Sweater stacker. Same deal. Getting sweaters off of the top shelf allows easy access, not to mention makes room for my purses, that I finally removed from all the random hooks.
  • Sweater bags. To protect wool and cashmere from those tiresome moths; Fits nicely on the aforementioned narrow shelf.

While this may or may not change your life, it always feels good to get rid of some things in time for Spring, and pass them along to others who can use and appreciate them…
