I was at Trader Joe’s today sans kids, and aside from being euphoric because I was able to shop alone, I took note of a few things. Let me preface this by saying, that the T.J’s I frequent happens to be in ‘the’ hipster neighborhood (not mine). Barring the fact that shoppers are generally too cool to smile at you, it also looks as if perhaps everyone works at Urban Outfitters. I felt old. Not because everyone was young (ish) and hip, but because so many of the trends were being regurgitated back at me from my very own past. Case in point? The bleached skinny jeans. How many nights were spent in my parents’ basement, Clorox in hand, trying to attain the perfect yet serendipitous spottiness? I’m guessing not as many as were consumed by ‘tapering’ the finished product at my mother’s old Singer. And for what it’s worth? ‘Bleached Skinny Jeans Girl’ was also wearing neon pink nail polish.
