Love ‘em or hate ‘em, sequins are the deal for Fall 2009. I happen to love them (yet oddly, have yet to make a purchase…I might want to revisit that) in all their Bianca Jagger circa ‘77, Studio 54 glory, but hey – that’s just me. Being that they are super trendy, you might not want to make a huge investment. On the flip side? I also think that they’re pretty versatile; anything that can work with jeans and black tie, is a go in my book. You in…?

Forgive me as I am ever so slooowly re-immersing myself back into my ‘real’ life (dog puke anyone?). Have I mentioned that I’m not amazing with transition…? With kindergarten, haircuts, and uniforms on the back burner (for now), historically one of the first things I do upon retuning to my hometown, is ditch the kids, jump into the car with my mom (the best shopper on the planet for about sixty different reasons) and head to the local Loehmann’s.
The sale was on, and the discounts were gorgeously deep. I tried to focus more on my day-to-day ensembles, rather than shopping for all those amazing nights out that usually only happen in my head. I think I did okay, save for the impractical Pucci beach tote that I just couldn’t pass up ($120 down about seven times from a ludicrous $715 – WTH?!), and The Steve Madden (WTH x 2, since I usually cannot stand SM) platforms that I still think are kind of slutty. Regardless, they make my fat feet look cute as do the gladiators, so there. Oh, and the chandelier earrings! (Mine are, incidentally, all clear stones.) On second thought, not such a stellar job on the day-to-day wear. At least I managed to eek out some jeans and tees, but boy will those slutty shoes look hot in a parallel universe…

Ruche Smokey Gray 'Concierto' Tank $29.99
For thirty bucks, this is just too pretty to pass up! There’s something really simple about it, yet at the same time, so much embellishment in the construction of the blouse itself. I think it looks much more expensive than it actually is, not to mention it’s forgiving cut – high on the shoulders to flatter your arms, and loose in the tummy to hide, well…you know; It would be a perfect match for spring’s new cropped pants. I so dig Ruche – it’s like the cheap Anthropologie!

Thomas Wylde 'Spider Bite Skull' Tee in Heather Gray $199
Okay so this wasn’t exactly ‘recently’ purchased, and it also wasn’t a purchase that I made myself. J bought it for me (in black) for Valentine’s day at a sample sale (yes – I wear a tank under it), for MUCH less than even the $199 sale price listed here (it was originally marked at an astounding and ridiculous $335). Knowing that Pamela Thomas is one of my very favorite designers, he took it upon himself to hoof it to a bungalow at the Chateau Marmont, on a Wednesday afternoon. If you’ve ever been to a sample sale, then you know what he walked into. Not only did he choose it on his own – for which he takes no credit since he said it was akin to ’shooting fish in a barrel’ – he also came home with two others. He’s a keeper.

Newport News Smocked Chiffon Blouse $24
Once again, super weird photo – maybe not so much with the black chiffon on a white background, but you get the idea. Marked down from thirty-nine dollars, this would be so pretty over a camisole, with slouchy pants (or jeans) and a leather jacket. As always, I like the mixture of tough and feminine, but it would look equally cute on it’s own. I don’t recommend wearing only a bra underneath (a bit Contempo Casuals ‘91 for me), unless of course that’s your thing. In that case, go for it.
